OK, getting ready to pull the rockerboxes and pushrods off the S2 so I can replace the pushrod tube bases with NRHS billet pieces...and hopefully get them to STOP leaking for a while lol.

While the rockerboxes are off...should I change to XB tops and PCV valves to reduce puke? I run a stock breather setup into the air cleaner; no desire whatsoever to change to an external breather setup, but it would be nice to reduce the puke a little bit. Any thoughts from anyone who's done this?

IMHO, go to the XB HEAD breather system ASAP !!!

What Buellistic said, you won't regret it.

On my S2, the XB breather on the back cylinder fouled the bottom of the gas tank to the extent that I couldn't use it. I mentioned it here on BWB and one or two others mentioned that they'd had the same problem. Apparently it works OK for some, but not for others.

Hm.

Does the OEM XB setup put the breather at the top (towards the intake) of the rockerbox? Or the lower side? I don't recall...

If it's the top...maybe putting 2 front rockerboxes on would do the trick, that way the valves would be at the rear of the boxes, and lower on the rear cylinder....

That might work, Rat. The breathers are at the high ends of the rocker boxes. My work-around was to plug the breather hole on the back jug and run a crossover tube between the banjos, then let the front breather vent everything to a catch can. Not elegant, but it works...

My motor has Millenium 1250 cylinders, maybe they're just a bit taller than stock, that might explain the problem.

Maybe somebody's got a spare front XB cover they could part with?

BUELLers:

FYI !!!

When the BLAST came out "i" knew their rocker arm breather as a real "PLUS" ...

The XB's were not out yet so "i" just put them in my OEM rocker arm covers ...

This allowed me to put the breathers where "i" wanted them and not where some engineer felt they should go ...

Of course "i" made sure there was clearance so nothing rubbed or banged against anything ...

OK, ordered (2) front rockerboxes and (1) rear (in case I need to put one on the rear cylinder "backwards" for clearance to the tank) from a 2009 XB12XP (since we have one on the floor and I can put hands on it and verify they are black); 2 valves and 2 grommets.

Beyond that, and plumbing it myself...it should bolt right up to the existing '95 S2 rockerbox lowers once I delete the middle ring, yes?

I'm hoping this, and new umbrella valves, and I can cut down on the puke factor somewhat... : )

Glad to see this thread come up; I would've never known about this. I've got XB covers in my closet waiting to be put on. Keep us posted Joe so I know whether or not to buy another front one.

I drilled a 1" hole in my stock polished covers and installed XB PCV valves and grommets.

Good luck Rat, if it turns out you don't need the extra front cover, I'll buy it from you.

If I remember right when I did the XB rocker conversion on my S1, I thought it got rid of the umbrella valve, since you plugged the existing breather bolt hole.

Parts lookup still shows an umbrella valve on XBs....

Nope, no umbrella valve.
You chuck the middle rockerbox section that holds the umbrella valve.
Yes you plug the old breather holes. I used SS hex button head bolts. 3/4" if memory serves.

what exactly does the umbrella valve due? it is an old version of what a pcv valve is now? Is the umbrella value the green valve?

If I install grommets and pcv valves in my factory X1 rocker boxes, can i just leave the umbrella valves in and cap the original breather holes?

thanks

Purpony:

Umbrella Valves will do the same thing as the BLAST/XB pvc valves when new ...

Due to head HEAT as they get older they quit working ...

"i" put the BLAST PVC VALVES(XB's were not out yet) in my OEM valve covers and never removed the old umbrella valves and used blots to plug the OEM breather holes and hold the carb. bracket ...

When "i" up-dated to the latest rocker arm gaskets, then "i" removed the old umbrella valves ...

If you want pictures of what "i" did, e-mail me so that "i" can get your e-mail address and the "INFO" is yours ...
