You can lift it from the frame around the steering neck and from the backside of the frame (underneath the back of the gas tank). Why is the cable leaking? If it's leaking then you have too much lube in it, or you have a plugged transmission vent line (a plugged tranny ventline will push fluid past the trans seal, into the primary, and up the clutch cable).

Mine's hanging from a cherry picker right now by tow straps. In the rear, I wrapped them around where the subframe would mount to, and the strap supporting the front is looped around a part of the frame that runs side to side directly under where the fuel tank would be. (Hope that makes sense, I can try to take a pic tomorrow being that they're worth 1000 words and all..)

I personally wouldn't lift it like that though unless the engine is out of it.

Bike stands are a little pricey but very convenient. If you want to spend a little less though, and don't need the bike lifted off the ground you may consider just a front wheel chock. I got this one from Harbor Freight and use it regularly.

Here's the cherry picker I use:
(also from Harbor Freight)

(Front is a Pit Bull from American Sport Bike, I'm not sure what brand the rear is but I know it's no longer available)

I've been using these for my teardown/rebuild.

You get both at that price and they also come with all the needed appurtenances for whatever bike you're working on. I can lift from the triple tree or swap it out and lift from the forks. On the rear I can lift from a swingarm or swap it out and lift from a spool. They're very handy, can't believe I waited so long to get them.
