I am trying to be honest here...with doing some research of the bike I just bought from my friend, he got his Stg3 NRHS heads literally HANDED to him by a tech at the dealer for NO money! The heads were suppose to be used on an XB but the owner couldnt get the the fueling right for some odd reason.

I know the Stg3 heads are suppose to be CUSTOM but just how custom are they?!?! The number he has put down were like 107whp and ~90 lb/ft of torque. I have a feeling that the tuning from the HD dealer has a little to do with the lower-than-expected numbers to save their behind (running a lil more rich). I know they def dont have the 18-21 discs that are recommended either in the supertrapp.

Here is a quick look at the build:
NRHS 1250 kit 10.5:1
NRHS Stg3 heads
HSR42 w/ K&N
SE .536 cams
SE Intake Manifold
S1W header (2.5")
Supertrapp w/ race cap
SE Adjustable Ignition module
SE High Performance Coil & Wires

107/90 is the final number? Makes sense, as Aaron Wilson's S2 runs that number with a similar build (difference- stage II heads and race exhaust). The 2 main setbacks for your build is the heavier flywheels and the shorter headers. A Force or Buell race exhaust and S1W/S3T or later crank would bump up the power a bit. Next would be more compression and different cams.

so what youre saying is to get rid of these heads and get a Stg2 done with some SE .575 cams and a S3T crank/flywheel setup? Then if I'm not happy with that...go with a force exhaust?

"I know the Stg3 heads are suppose to be CUSTOM but just how custom are they?"

I would call the source of the heads.

No I'm saying that you're heads should be just as good or better than the stage II heads. Aaron's bike makes the same power because ofthe race exhaust. The S1W header is nice, but still not a tuned header like the race header or Force, both of which also have longer headtubes. The crank alone is good for 5-10 HP.

An honest and streetable 107 RWHP is pretty good.

Very true. Keep in mind a stock S2 has like 60 RWHP. Even the late tubers with the "101 HP" motors only run 85 HP at the rear wheel.

Also which air cleaner are you running? That could be a limiting factor as well.

I was just thinking about this myself, so i went and looked. to my amazement its the stock backing plate with a k&n...ill be putting in an order for a hurricane intake tomorrow!!!

i emailed dan @ nrhs and he said to run no less than 21 discs with my setup as the lack of discs are prob hurting power as well too! thanks for the reassurance as i was just getting a little worried there the more i thought about the numbers...

Go ride the bike....You will forget all about how much or little HP it makes.

That's accurate . . in my opinion.

My S2 is 111 RWHP and it was built with "reliability" #1 and "power" (like we didn't change the exhaust) as #2.

It was 52RWHP when I sent it and I loved it then.

So i got the rebuild sheet from the dealer...some good and some bad. it has 575 cams not 536. it is also the stock bore, bored .015 over...not the 1250 kit. so i guess its right around where it should be considering everything.

so court, are you saying that the change to a race header is not worth the time and money?

i ordered a hurricane intake and will add discs to total the 20 thats recommended. if i walk out with 111 to 115 ill be more than happy!!!

The Race header shoe can be a huge PITA sometimes. The header literally shakes them apart. I think that is the only real reliability concern with the Race exhaust.

No idea . . . it'd depend on what you want. Mine has the stock header.

thanks court!

well like i said im running the s1w 2.5" exhaust and an external supertrapp...for the money, is there any decent gain from swapping to a race header and/or a different exhaust can?!?! (anyone)

A supertrapp is about as good as it gets for the S1W header. The race exhaust would probably add about 2-3 HP. You could get another 2-5 HP with a 1250 kit with higher compression (IE 11:1).

I think all my mods along with a dyno chart are somewhere on the NRHS website.

I always thought it was the race muffler, not the header, that had a habit of separating. Blake posted a pic of his (holding it) after he had it let loose. Scary stuff.

I run the Race Exhaust on my S2T, for the last 12000 miles. I am going to fab something to hold it in case the rivets let go.

So did I, thought that was why there was the retention kit for it. I run the kooks system but was looking to trade for a race system since its extremely loud. If not ill just keep it and run it

Blake: What,s bad about Race header ? But I see there is no race header offered for S2#65396 A1 exhaust Pipe, but is offered for lightning.Gess you could put on if you put on lightning heads though or thunderstorm heads. If S2 had these head installed.

I've got a race header on my S2 as well. No problems with about 10,000 miles on it.
I have a modified V&H can, not the race muffler..
