Noticed yesterday that the front engine mount (L0149.K Isolator Mount, front)on my 01 Lightning is broken about 2" above where it bolts to the right side of the head. Anyone had this happen before? I don't see a reason for this. I bought this bike used 3.5 years ago, and have put about 26,000 miles on it. Thanks. dave

Not being a smart ass, do a search there must be a zillion threads about the Iso's and the head mount.

BTW Welcome to the board.

Usually about every twentieth Old School thread is about an Iso or head mount failure.

Others including myself will help and guide you through the ritual's and repairs of a tuber.

Welcome to the WTF Club :oP Be glad the mount cracked and the two bolts on the head didn't shear off. Ask me how I know... Look into the NHRS billet mount. American Sport Bike has them in stock as well as the entire bolt kit. Might as well do the isolator while you're at it. Consider it an unexpected present to yourself. It will take some of the pain away.

Safe ride,

Just order a new stock alum. engine mount. For the ISO that you should replace now.....Buell is now selling the - b ISO mount. All you have to do is order one from the dealer. A date on the package should be later than june 09 or remember 69 for short. Any others will fail early. There is a thread here with a pic of the latest mount from the factory but I forgot to bookmark it. maybe someone else has. Just make sure you get the latest change from the factory and a new mount with a new bolt kit from American Sport Bike and you will be done.

i would not waste my money on the billit mount either. If you want to you can but inspection of the mount, new bolts every few years, 60 lbs on your two two head bolts and this shouldnt surpise us again.

Because of your mileage have someone lift up the bike in the rear and look for any movement of the rear iso bolt. If it moves the you need rear isos too.

Mike, you must be talking about the front iso (engine mount) not the engine mount bracket. I thought the -b applied to the iso, i.e., 16207-79B, etc.
A related question: Is it necessary to replace the three nuts and bolts (one on the center and one on each side) when replacing the front iso? By the way, I got L0501.2 when I ordered it a couple of weeks ago. Looks very well built and probably the closest to the OEM.

According to the service bulletin all three bolts should be replaced with a new ISO. At his mileage and age on bike, why would anyone not rebuild this CRITICAL AREA after such a failure? hmmm why not ?

Whatever, on the iso numbers, where is that thread that showed a picture of the june 09 one with a -b barry number one it!

Oh I found it
