The speed sensor on my '01 X-1 died, but not in the 'normal' way. Instead of the speedometer needle giving up, it blew the Ign fuse! Investigation showed the power wire to the sensor had shorted to the ground wire inside the sheath at the sensor body, resulting in a short to ground. (I get all the good ones, it seems). Anyway, a new speed sensor solved the problem. Now I have to repair the damage caused by my ham-fistedness and impatience. Does anyone know where to get the female blade terminal wire end that goes to the small blade terminal on the Ign relay. Having trouble finding the one that fits into the relay block. FWIW, it is the one that connects the wire from the relay to the sidestand switch (long since jumpered)and feeds the diode that feeds the Acc fuse. Thanks much, Dave | ||

Is there a Harley, or Buell shop close by, my local aftermarket Harley shop keeps all of the electrical small parts, I am not sure if it is something used on the Harley's or not, they would probably just have to compare them. | ||

I feel your pain man. That happened to me. I was broke down on the freeway, so I had it towed to the closest dealer. They spent all day tearing my wiring harness apart before they unplugged the sensor. Then they spent 2 more hours trying to figure out why my turn signals didn't work any more. I had to go in the back and plug the turn signal flasher back in for them. They wouldn't knock off any labor time either. Cost me $500 for their ineptitude and another $50 for a new sensor. This was pre-5v-sensor fix. | ||

Thanks much for the replies, they are appreciated. Went to the local H-D shop; no joy. They were very helpful, turns out 2 of the people in the shop (the service manager, who just bought a new 1125, and one of the techs) are Buell guys, but nothing on hand worked. And the 2 nearest Buell dealers are 2hrs west or 2.5hrs east of here. Drat!!! No luck at local auto stereo places, or Radio Shack. Can get connectors that fit the blade, but not into the back of the fuse block. And Hoot, I hear yah! Short version of my story is a state trooper stopped by, gave me a lift to the nearest U-Haul dealer, which was only 10ish or less miles away, and put the bike in the truck and finished the trip that way. And yeah, I hate to think of what it would have cost to have someone diagnose the problem. At least it sounds like they took about as long as I did to find the issue. Sorry to hear about the turnsignal thing. I've done stuff like that myself. Ah, well, back to the quest. Dave | ||

Local junkyard? Start scouring cars, and get an old fuseblock. I keep a couple spares (fuseblocks, that is) in the garage. Good for fuses...but also for terminals like you need now. I just get into the car, expose as much of the wiring as I can get to, and cut it all so the block comes out with about 4-6" of wire attached. They usually let me have 'em for about $5 or so. Love me some U-pull-it junkyards!  | ||

AK check the XB board, I had the IAT sensor wiring on my bike fail earlier this year, My local parts guy crossed it in the Xb book and got the plug and connectors cheap. the manufactuers normaly stay with the same hardware in these situations thru a model run if they work, the speed sensor is likely one of those items... | ||

An update: Still looking for the proper connector. Seems the small blade on the relay is 0.187in wide, and connectors are available, but I haven't yet found one that will fit into the fuse block. For the time being, I have made an 'extension cord' or jumper, and have the relay just lying in the bottom of the trunk. At least it is running. Off to yet another dealer to see what I can find. Since it is 100+ mi one way, have to make a day trip out of it. Cheers, Dave |
