Does anyone know if a 2004 rubber mounted Sportster 1200 motor will fit in a 1999 S3 tuber without modification? I currently have XB heads, so the front engine mount is not an issue if the 2005 engine has the same mounting holes up there. Can also swap the heads if need be. More concerned with everything else lining up to the frame and any other potential concerns you may help point out. I can get one fairly cheap, and thought about sticking that clean chrome motor up in there. Thanks in advance for any help.

Not without modifying the cases for the front mount.

i think the rear mount is wrong also. 2003 is ok but i think you have to drill the front head still.

Again, I can change the heads to the ones I am currently using, so no problems up front that I am worried about. The swingarm mount is what I was worried about. So, the case is different where it mounts up to the swing arm? Can it be easily modified, or is the casting different? I am not looking for major machine work, would prefer a direct bolt up (other than a head swap if necessary).

The case is completely different at the rear mount, I beleive beyond any simple machining.

The case is different at the front as well. Look below your heads.
