Question for you M2 Guys:
In 2002, was it possible to get a black plastic, orange frame, & orange wheel color combo? From the research I've done, it looks like it was a grey plastic, orange frame, orange wheel combo that came from the factory. I'm looking into buying an M2 from a guy and wondering if this black/orange/orange color combo is how it came from the factory (as he claims).

You had to buy the Volcano/Grey one, then pay to have the dealer get the Black Body work, I think. ; )

If you happen to be talking about the one on Craigslist in Chicago, then that body work I can almost guarantee you came from another bike.

I say that because the Emblems on the tank (which you can still buy), are not in orange, they are white. I can pretty much gurantee that someone bought those plastics and swapped them out. If you were to buy them from a dealer, you coulda had the Orange ones installed from the get go.

Ad for those wondering:

Brinnutz,
yes, thats the one I'm looking at. I guess its not a big deal if its not factory color combo. Seems kinda pricey for an M2 though doesn't it? It seems like most M2s are priced well below $4k.

How's the reliability of these bikes compared to an XB? I like the look but I'm concerned that coming from an XB, I'll be disappointed if I'm wrenching on it all the time.

Lettering (on the craigs list bike) looks kinda big, sure doesn't follow the factory lines, wonder why they would change the tank lettering and not use the orange?

Good call...I wonder if it is those Metal looking ones that some dude keeps selling on ebay for tons...that you can buy at the dealer for like $15..He makes like triple that every time..HAHA..

Anyways, good catch man, definitely not stock lettering on that tank. I wonder if someone had the gray bodywork painted now?

Now that I think about it, the lettering on that bike is identical to the lettering I had on my Ulysses. I think I'm going to take a pass on that bike for now.

I sure am not Neil...LOL, maybe next year? I keep buying parts that I don't necessarily need, but will in the future when I put her back together...Need, XB tuber motor mount, aluminum oil tank, stainless oil lines and some odds and ends. Oh, new wire harness.

About another grand yet.

The black and orange looks great factory or not, but orange tank badges would be an improvement..

YUP, great looking paint scheme. There was a short while there where you could get any color combo you asked for, I thought it was only on the S3's, were the M2's part of that? For the number of black and orange ones out there I'm beginning to wonder... I think I cut up that sales brochure for the pictures, I'll have to check my Buell stuff for one that's intact.

Found a copy of the brochure, the S3 "Build-to-Order program" was the ad I was thinking about. This was in the 1999 brochure with the yellow X1 on the cover, titled "Thumbstart Your Senses".

The orange frame was not offered that year, nor was it offered in 2000. I don't have the 01 or 02 sales stuff, probably never did. Sure do wish I had some copies of those and the 98 brochure (which I once had).

I imagine if you were willing to pay the premium you could still get a black and orange bike built, but would probably have to be fairly pushy to get it done.

Just thought I'd add a note in case this thread hadn't completely died...

Wilson did you pick up Buell advertising along with you parts and pieces collecting?

Okay, this just in, I picked up a copy of the 2001 brochure and it looks like black and orange were a color combo that could be requested like any other for that model year... still looking for a 2002 brochure.

I wonder if the guy with the craig's list bike just changed out his tank lettering for some reason? Sometimes they come loose.

"I only really have the stuff that came with my bike..."

I'm confused... please clarify do you mean that's the only documentation you have? You are perhaps being funny and I'm too tired to recognize that? (Graves is a great schedule for me, but sometimes I don't get enough sleep to fuel my mind through the night.

Thanks

The only Buell advertising stuffs I have are what I got with my bike from the previous owner.

It came with all of the 2002 brochures, owners manual, FSM, and parts manual.

I thought that's what you were asking when you said, "Wilson did you pick up Buell advertising along with you parts and pieces collecting?"

Yes, you are correct that's what I was asking thanks! I just wasn't getting it last night - short night's sleep followed by a long day followed by a long night at work, no sleep the day before...

I should probably just stay off-line on those sorts of nights to save myself the embarrassment.
