had a k&n filter in the breadbox and took that off to install the forcewinder. seems like i lost a lot of low end torque. also sounds like it is running lean. i have the race ecm and v&h exhaust. i am missing something? anyone have a copy of ecmspy i can buy/use? |

If you are not happy. Rig up the old snorkel-OR ECONO winder as commonly referred to! Apparently the stock snorkel is a certain length and the bike was originally tune for this length. The race ECM will not help it work any better, What exhaust pipe are you running? |

well it seems like it has basically moved the power band up 500 rpms or so. it definetely revs easier and likes to be around 4k. it still seems to ping when bogged down, running lean? nate |

Fuel injected. Running v and h exhaust and factory header (I think, it was on there when I bought it) I really do like the easier revving just gotta deal with the lean condition. |

I've got an injected S3 with the 'winder supertrapp and the race ECM -- definitely runs right now and revs better. I added them all at the same time and had the TPS reset. I'm not sure if the TPS is an issue when just adding intake but it couldn't hurt. Never ran correctly (way too lean and lots of preignition in town) in Colorado's thin air till I made the mods. The rain sock cover definitely steals some performance - I only run mine if it's a downpour -- |

i took the ait sensor out of the filter and put it up front by the engine mount and it seemed to run better. put it back into the filter and the bike seemed like it pinged and was running leaner. i really need the ecmspy nate |

well played with it some more and found out i had switched the wires on the ait sensor when i took the crimp connectors out of the holder to slip them through the aluminum Forcewinder holder. runs much better now. i also had to reroute the breather lines as the forcewinder system caused too much back pressure and made my rocker box leak much worse. i have that in another thread though. i love the looks and the higher revving nature of the motor now is quite fun. before with the breadbox and k&n, it seemed like around 4.5K, it was screaming. now, cruising at 4K is fun and sounds great. here are a few pics cause pics are fun.

So, how does the Forcewinder cause more back pressure? |

i don't really know but it did. maybe just the routing of the breathers together with all of the bends into a ram-air type filter? |

Nice pics, that ceramic coating is nice for cutting radiated heat. Red Stripe has always been my favorite X1. |

I assume that gold meant increased resistance in the breather hoses - not backpressure as in the exhaust system. Breather restriction will cause rocker box leaks. Imo it can also cause intake gaskets to leak more often. Since going to xb rocker covers and their turret valves vs. The tuber style head breathers I've had zero problems with intake seals. With the head breathers I was blowing intake seals every 3-4k miles. The fw intake looks good, but imo the stock x1 airbox can't be beat performance wise. Buell knew what they were doing when they designed that ugly suitcase size "helmholtz" airbox. |

yes, resistance in the system. i also noticed that when i plumb the two heads together for the breathers, it makes the leak on the rocker box worse. when i made separate lines to the catch can, the leak went back to what it used to be. maybe the blow/suck of the heads can cause a disruption in the venting if plumbed together? i know some say the the stock bread box is designed with the engine, but mine is not stock. the fw intake allows the race ecm and exhaust to work at their full potential. the bike just seems to breath much better. of course none of this is dyno proven, just my feel. nate |
