Looking to hear what people think about retaining my salvaged X1. Still all in one piece. Slide on it's left side a way's, but is repairable. Thinking about $500.00 to put on the road again, and have a free and clear bike. Or keep it and part it out: Engine still great with 17,000mi on it, plus all the other part out items. On the other hand, should I take the insurance money (about 2,000 after bank pay off.), and use it on another bike? Looking at getting a ST3, or Ully. What could I expect to get on parting out The X1??? I have the time, but is it worth it? It would cost me $1,450 out of my settlement to keep the bike. If I don't put it back on the road, can I make $2,000 out of parting it? Thanks for any help / advice guys. Will it have a salvage title or regular title if you buy it back ? That would make a difference if you ever tried to sell it as a complete bike | ||

Try negotiating a lower salvage buy back price from your insurance carrier. If you have other policies with that company they may be open to a smaller price. You can look at anywhere from $1,200-1,400 for the engine assembly from what I've seen on eBay. If the body parts aren't too smashed up you're looking at another $100 or so. Front end good? Another $200+ easy. Then there's the wheels/tires for another $250+ especially if they're PM wheels. If you can get the bike back on the road for $500 that's the way to go. Just be aware that the bike will have a salvage title and may be harder to sell later on. In CA the owner has 10 days to file for a salvage title otherwise you will go through hell with the DMV. Of the few I've followed, it seems for what they're going for now owners make more money parting them out than selling them whole. But then again you have to consider your time taking it all apart, taking pictures and then selling, packing and shipping. | ||

I heard...Some people who parted out totally modified and rare parts on bikes got 5-7K. I cannot confirm that though. Like i said i heard from some people who claimed this! I WOULD KEEP THE BIKE!! And take your money down and wave it at the Buell dealer I bet you ride out of there.  | ||

A lot of work to part it out, but may be worth it money wise. I found it therapeutic to work on my bike after my crash. My bikes got a few scars but putting it together myself kinda made me feel whole again. Tell us about your Florence Nightingale. | ||

Thanks Littlebuggles! I'll have to keep that in mind. I have some pics the adjuster sent me, but they will not load on here. File size too big. Just about all cosmetic stuff. right mirror, turn signals, shift linkage, etc. Scrapped up pretty good. Seat got popped up at the front. - not sure how that happened! Makes me think the tank got shoved back or something??? Course I could have just not put it bacl on right the last time I had it off. Hard to tell by pics and not being hands on. If I can get the bike back for $1,000 I'll probably go for it. So Florence. Well, there's kind two different ones... One's my age, my type, cute, friendly, beautiful, caring all that, and of course married! #%#%^^$@ I swear out here in BFE all the good ones are married, too young, or looking to get the hell out of dodge. The other, is a lady a little older than myself, but there's something about her and she's single. Not hot, or real good looking, just some sort of chemistry. She likes bike's and riding, has a nice smile, been divorced, been there and done all that. Seems realistic about life. Anyway, I'm out of here Tomorrow! I could use some more time here, but insurance say's I'm good enough to leave. Gonna get some home and out patient care. So last full day of therapy today, which it's time for.... Peace Bro's! | ||
