Well...just had a conversation with a fellow S2 owner here at the shop, and with our machine shop foreman. We are contemplating making new frame braces for tubers, using my original Banke brace as a template. It's my understanding that Banke no longer makes these...if I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me.

As always, we need to find buyers to make a run worthwhile.

AFAIK, the brace will/should fit any tuber that doesn't have the built-in frame spar (I want to say any pre-'99 frame?).

Post here, or send me a PM, if you'd be interested. Right now, with a run of 5 or 10 pieces, pricing looks to be around $250. Quantity will bring that down, of course.

Let me know!

About a year ago this topic came up and I posted if there was enough interest I'd make some and only had 1 reply and the thread died.

Making 20 at a time I figured about $150.00 apiece plus shipping.

A piece a 3/4" tubing 8-3/4" long with the proper notching/welding is a lot cheaper.

I would be interested if the price comes down to about $150 shipped. I like bling, but I'm too cheap to pay $250 for a brace. Not that it's a bad price. I paid $225 2 years ago to have a set of clipons CnC'd.

Joe,

Is this through Buell of Frederick?

If so COOL! If not, please go though one of our sponsors. I bet one of them would be eager to help.

Thanks,

Blake

Blake - yes, thru BoF. Our race team is HDFR...they run the machine shop and the CNCs, but it'd be through our dealership (same entity, different "branch" so to speak). Don't worry... ; )

For those wondering...it'd be a CNC aluminum piece, either blank-faced, or with the 'picture frame' engraved in it like the Banke piece had. We *might* - I'll ask about this - be able to personalize them inside the picture frame with "1995 S2 #1365", or "Frank's Buell"...I have to see how the CNC works with text engraving.

Sorry to pick on ya Frank...yours was the first name that came to mind!

...if only they let me play with the CNC.... : ) I'll keep on it, though, since I also want one for my S1W.

So, do I understand that this will only work with frames made before '99? No good for an '00 M2 then I guess.

you do not need it on a 00 m2 as it already has a bar to brace that side of the frame that the pre 99 buells did not have.

pre 99

post 99

as you can see there is an extra bar towards the front of the bike

It might help to drum up more interest if someone discussed the merits of this brace.

The merit is increased engine stabilization. The front tie bar attaches to a downward "V" mount section directly behind the front wheel - while it holds the engine in place laterally (side to side), it has no bracing longitudinally (front to back) on the early bikes.

This brace adds the longitudinal strength to the front mount that Buell added in '99 with the added spar.

Basically....less engine vibes, and (I seem to have noticed, anyway) less wandering around in hard cornering. My S1W, despite being set up nearly identically suspension-wise, isn't nearly as planted in the turns as my S2. S2? Brace. S1W? No brace. Yes...there are other variables...but I feel comfortable pushing the S2 much harder in turns than I do the S1W. And the S1W has a Penske triple-adjust and steering stabilizer; the S2 is "just" a Works double-adjust and no stabilizer. Both are OEM forks, and both have Thunderstorm engines (while the S2 retains its heavy-flywheel bottom end).

The only drawback, I've noticed, to the brace? You have to remove it if you're going to drop the engine out of the bike. Woo-hoo. : )

That is the Banke frame brace. Same one I have on my S1. Personal experience is that the front feels more planted going in hot.
