hey i like the progress, i really like xb wheels. So you said xb wheels on a 99 tuber would be simple on the front except for the caliper bracket....anyone built a bracket or have pictures of a bracket they have seen built?...I was thinking I would have to switch out the forks and triples.. |

also, would it be an improvement to put the xb triples and forks on? or is a 99 x1 about the same quality as the xb in that regard. |

It would be a very easy swap if you use XB forks and triples. I didn't for a few reasons-
-my clipons wouldn't fit XB forks.
-I wanted to use my existing American Sport Bike carbon front fender (I think the XB fenders are ugly on S2s).
- the shorter XB forks would make a difficult fit for my long forked S2.
- the S2 forks are higher end WP ROMA forks compared to the XB Showa units. |

I haven't built the bracket yet but have seen some built for other bikes and believe it'll fairly simple. Also I forgot to mentio. XB forks would work well on the X1s because they are similar length, the fender matches better, and both models have 7/8" bars, compared to my S2's 1" handlebars. |

what is the quality of 99 x1 forks compared to xb forks? did they use better forks like your s2 |

Either the early or late X1 forks were WPs, and the rest were Showas, but neither had all the adjustment options and such of the WP ROMAS found on the S2s. The S2 was a bike built before cost-cutting production. HD lost almost $3000 on each S2 in an effort to put the bike on the market early. |

I was told the only difference on the wp romas and the later showas are the length. The adjustments are the same i was told. Not sure if thats the truth or not. The xb forks are nicer than the wp romas i believe. |

Dunno. Romas have preload, compression dampening, and rebound dampening adjustments on each fork. |

Heck, i dont even know what my x1 forks have ross, i just know they were better than my super spongy m2 forks lol |

I know what you mean. I never turned a dial as best as I remember on the S2. Did a lot of tuning experiments with my old XL1200S though. It had the same adjustments, but the forks were just do damn skinny to handle the weight of me and the bike at speed. The S2 just always handled so much better that I never bothered. Guell you have with X1 or S3 forks compression and rebpund damping adjustments
IIRC compression is on the top, the rebound adjusters are on the bottom
preload must be adjusted by changing springs or adding spacers to the spring stack.
I posted a detailed teardown of the front end in the KV... |

did you use the tuber or XB rear spindle to fit the rear wheel ? |

I used both the stock tuber axles. I had a pair of Hals spacers that I had to trim to make the wheel fit inside the swingarm, as well as trim the brake caliper mount to make it all fit right and have the caliper work. |

So I got a little closer today. I got the front spacers trimmed and the wheel centered. Now I just need a thick piece of aluminum to start on the caliper adapter. In the meantime, photoshoot! I installed a few nice pieces today, but I forgot to take a pic of the other side, so you can barely see one of them. I added a billet top tree, NRHS points cover, and a steering dampener (Storz I think?). I'm really impressed with the steering dampener and I haven't even ridden the bike yet lol. I turned it stiff to ease pulling the bike into the shed, and down to wheel it around the yard, in which case you can't even tell it's there when turned down. It definitely slows steering a bit when it's turned up though. I wish I could find a billet lower tree, but oh well. With the fairing on, you won't be able to see the lower one anyway. Also I'm sure I said it before but the Pirelli Scorpion Syncs look SOOO good on this baby! I think I'm going to trim the S3 CF rear hugger I have so that more of the tire is seen when while it's on. I have a CF lower belt guard too that will be reinstalled. Also, if I hadn't mentioned it earlier, disregard the condition of the wheels. Once I get everything set up, I will have the wheels sandblasted while the forks get rebuilt. The wheels will be either polished or black with polished lip in the end- I'll decide once I finish the new paint and reinstall the bodywork.
