I am trying to buy me a shock from ebay and I keep finding some brand new ones that are part number K0431.M and they keep saying they are for 1995 to 1996 s2 and 1999 to 2000 s3s. but I thought all of the 14 inch shocks was the same. So I am asking if this is the correct shock for my M2 or is there a different one for m2s?

They are all the same, except for the different lengths. It will work, you may have to get a different front mounting bracket. I ended up with 2 brackets so let me know if you need one

thanks guys. I have the 14 inch one and the ones i have been looking at are the 14 inch ones so i guess they are the right ones. Besides i cant pass up the fact that they are brand new. My plan is to have something to at least hold me over while I am on my R&R leave for 2 weeks next month. I am eventually planning on getting a good one (works or penske) but I don't have that much money that is not tied up in savings type stuff right now.

I've got an S3T and an M2. The M2 part number is K0431.9. They look the same and I wonder if they might have a slightly different spring for the different weights of the bikes. The M2 is a 2000 and has the recall shock. The S3T is a 2001 and has the K0431.M.

Save up and get a Works or a Penske. They are rebuildable.

Buy the time you keep replacing those shocks...you coulda spent that on a Works.

Yeah, just checked with aftershocks on a seal replacement on one they did two years ago and it's $230 for standard service.

I probably paid another $100-150 over that ($375 sounds familiar) for the custom valving they did two years ago. So I'll be $600+ (especially considering shipping) into it if I have it done again, not sure I want to go that route, but it is cheaper than the high end part...

$230 for the rebuild and new old stockers for under $150 (for now). Might be financially sound to acquire a couple of the OEM items and put them on the shelf. I know the Works and Penske both provide way more performance than the stockers, but for some of us the OEMs will suffice due to lack of funds and/or the thought of passing the bike on within the next 20K miles.

Safe ride,

Personally, I won't be selling this bike, and have a tendency to out-ride my stock suspension (on occasion). The re-valve was good for the track... Good suggestion Brin, got my suspension set, then left it alone, will soften the compression for long freeway rides but haven't needed that with the valving set up for me.

Kinda feel like we've thread jacked Firebolt's thread, but it looks like he was done with it anyway...

funny thing is i just ended up with 2 brand new shocks. I am not sure if i am going to hold on to the second one for when the other one blows or try and resell it.

Oh, and another point for Works over stock...

Stock shock spring is setup for what, a 165 lb rider? Works is set to your weight. ;P

Ahh, yeah that's the real difference. Wonder how my stock shock survived the 270 lb original owner :oP I'm at 205 so I'm still way over the designed rider weight. Maybe if I sell off some of my unused toyz I can still get that Works shock! Are the springs on the Works and/or Penske progressive rate?

Safe ride,

Penske will be here tomorrow!

Just waiting on a Z-braket now, and trading intakes. Back in the saddle in a week.

Nice, I was considering a fully adjustable works but the penske is only a little more so I figured what the hell. I'll never get what I've put into the bike (I'm sure y'all know that feeling), but I'm not planning on selling it, so whatever. Next project will be the gold valving and new springs up front but that will have to wait a while.

Kyle,

I know exactly what you're saying.

I've got thousands into mine...Hell, everything but the cases and crank assembly will be new in my motor when I get her back together...lol

I've also got a fully adjustable Works for mine.............................

Yeah, I found the deal of the century. I had a brand spankin new low end Works that I ended up selling for way less than Al or Works sells them for since I got such a good deal.
