Thanks for the compliments on the bike... Unfortunately I cannot take credit for the work as i bought the bike with the faring on it already so id do not know what went in to the wiring of the lights. I do know that everything under it is from a firebolt other than the guages which are the dual gauge M2 setup. all they did it drill 2 holes in to the firebolt bracket and bolted it on there so it sits in the same place as the firebolt guages. The only thing you will have to fabricate to make it fit is to rectangle pieces of metal with 4 holes in them two to mount up to the s3 fairing holes on the frame and 2 to fit up to the firebolt bracket (pic below).

hey joe, who might that be? does this mean i get mine at a special price?

actually, when i got home, our discussion stirred me up to query banke & west-tek about these, to see if i could get some help with shop drawings, for programming the machining tools. most interesting, tho, was west-tek's comment that their brace works far better, besides weighting much less. i quote:

"There is a great mount at one end. The other is a sheet metal tab. How is the "tab" going to transfer any stress from one frame member to another? You can grab the thing and flex it with your hand."

comments from anyone? if we go w/this, perhaps we may want to seriously increase the thickness of the front tab, makes some sense...

I think and prefer a piece of chrome-molly welded in place as 99 S3 on my S2T.Looks better!

i was wondering about this - would this actually be a less expensive solution, after all is said & done, w/welding, painting, etc? while i actually think the aluminum braces look nicer, and being able to remove it makes engine access easier, if a brace could be done start-to-finish for <$100, it would certainly be something to consider...

In my shop it would be the minimum one hr. $45.00 labor + 9"x.750x.058 4130 tube @ $2.00 per foot.

I agree the welded in peice would look factory, but in my situation, I wouldn't want have to paint match the welded in brace to the rest of the frame. It would also be permanent, where as none of my other modifications couldn't be easily removed. If it was a complete teardown bike project I would do the weld in in a heartbeat.

I would prefer to do the welded tube with the appropriate ends to bolt it on, like the westek one. I think the flat brace looks like doo doo on a tube framed bike.

I personally liked the round tube one from American Sport Bike. It seemed to blend into the frame more. I had mine black powder coated to match the frame. I would like to get a white one or two for my S2's. REX

When I was rebuilding my S1 I had a bar welded in. It looks factory and it did give the front a little less flex when braking hard and when leaning pretty good.
