If so, do you still use the "candy canes" (for lack of a better term) to attach it to the frame? I've thought these were a bad idea since day one but they have finally worn out. That nut in the rubber grommet idea wasn't Buell's shining moment but that's neither here or now. I've considered just drill another hole and running a zip tie through it in the three mounting points or finding a nut to fit the button head allen and re-using the OEM hangers. Has anyone else changed anything, besides getting rid of the breadbox all together?

zip ties through the holes in those clips won't last. I almost lost my left side scoop in the process of learning that : )

I think the vibration causes the threads inside the hole to cut through the zip tie.

I don't see why drilling the hole out and using a nut on the hidden side wouldn't work. It will just make removal and installation a bit more tedious.

There won't be any threads to cut or rub against. If I go the zip tie route I'll use the existing hole there now, drill another, and run a tie through and around the frame then back in and zip it so if/when I have to take it back off I'll just cut the ties and be done with it. I don't think I'll ever have to worry about it coming off, not without warning anyway. Heck it's got a screw into the frame in the back, connected to the tank cover in the front and three hooks in the backside to the frame and since I've changed to XB boxes it doesn't have to be as air tight as it once was.

The OEM wellnuts are a pain,I used 10-32 bolts and nylocks on mine.

The X1 air box with the stock type filter needs to be air tight, any leakage will get sucked thru the 2 holes in the Heimholtz tube.

The X1 box is bolted solid to the frame unlike the M2-S3 that mount to the engine and the intake tube moves with engine vibes within the rubber sealing boot.

Just go to home depot or true-value and get a handful of those wellnuts.

I'm on my SECOND X1 breadbox.I wouldn't use anything else.I replaced the wellnuts

Just paid for my second breadbox. Flea bay, a $1.48 with free shipping. I wanted to try the "matching body color" on one but not the original in case I hate it. So I bet i'm +1 on the well nuts, we'll see what I get.
