Are there differences in S3 lowers from 97-98 models and 99-02 models? Any easy way to identify them if there are no part numbers?

Thanks!

Mike

I think that there are some mounting differences as well. I've got some old ones and new ones both I can take a look at if need be.
I bought a black '99, met the guy at the shop, and he forgot the lowers. I figured it would be no big deal since I had a set at home. I don't remember the details, just that months later when I went to put them on they didn't match.
If I'd realize how much they went for I'd have pursued getting them. They probably got sold on ebay by now, ,or there's a set sitting in a garage in Chicago collecting dust

Thanks for the info. Here are the pics I received on them. From what ebutch is saying, these may be 99-02?

hmm those look like what I just got a couple weeks ago. Wonder if my older style header will work with them.

Phillip, you running the breadbox air filter on yours? I just realized, it looks like the right side mount connects to that piece...not sure if I want to put that back on...

Yeah I'll run a breadbox only because of the lowers. I'd rather use a FW, but that would look a little odd. Besides, the FW is a PITA during rain and IMO causes a slight power loss.

I'm trying to keep the S3 a more practical project regardless of what would look better.

Thanks Ebutch, they are for sale in the classifieds. I'm not sure I can use them as I have a race filter on the bike. Someone grab them:
