I don't suppose anyone here has the internal volume of an X1,S3,bla and bla swingarm. Id hate to take maine apart just to fill it for volume measurements. I believe there is a drain hole near the shock mount?

Let me know how that turns out lol.. I can't say that it hasn't crossed my mind before.

I think the only holes are on the inboard side of the swingarm though, next to the wheel.

I would guess a couple quarts though.. but have never poured anything inside the swingarm to check

I didn't know here was a "drain hole" on the arm. What is it for?
And why the question?

The hole most likely allows for air to enter/leave as the metal expands and contracts.

I also suspect that the question was posed so that it can be determined if it can be used as an oil tank ala XB.

There are two approx.3/4 dia. holes on the inside of the swing arm, one on each side just ahead of the axle adjuster pockets.

You'll find the left one underneath the rear caliper anchor slot, the one on the right can't be seen or felt unless the rear wheel is removed.

They are used to drain the sand out after the swing arm is cast and quite likely used for jig location for the machining process.

If you are considering making an oil resivour the area that the bearings are in is open to the rest of the body cavity..

"bearings are in is open to the rest of the body cavity.."

That blows that idea.

It is a good idea though. Maybe Buell should pursue that in their next model : )

If you notice the LEFT side of the XB's swing arm looks very close ...

The IDEA was there and the XB's got it !!!

Would like to have a XB swing arm on my S3T to get rid of the FRAME MOUNTED PLASTIC OIL TANK ...

The openings can be plugged, sealed. I planed on using a good flexable tank sealant on the interior of the arm after a welding was completed. If volume isn't enough, I have thoughts on that too.

Don't forget about the axle adjuster holes in the rear too...Granted, bolts go in there, but just another place for problems...

BTW, this is ballsy.

Brinnutz, i'm kind of a stinker about that kinda stuff. I put a complete GM hei igniton in my last bike. Pickup, trigger, module and coil pack all hidden in factory positions. Just because i didn't want to pay $60 for an obsolete coil and still replace points. (1979 KZ750 twin) Put 2800 and some odd miles on that bike in Colorado in 4 days 2up, would have been 3 more days of riding, but the Buell X1 leading the show broke down.

Naa... say it ain't so a 20+yr old jap bike more reliable than a 1999 X1.
