I read of a guy on another forum adapting Marchesini wheels to his Sportster, and how he was going to get custom bearings with an ID to fit the sporty axle and OD to fit the wheel. This gives me a lot more confidence in my XB wheel conversion on my S2 using the stock forks, so now I need to know the ID of the tuber bearings and the OD of the XB bearings, as well as the width, so if anyone knows this information or has some spare bearings and calipers handy, please let me know. | ||

Okay, so I found the OD of the XB front wheel bearings (47 mm). Now all I lack is the ID of the tuber front wheel bearings. Anyone? I spent 2 1/2 hours in the KV looking for this info. I need not any specs for the rear. I have Hals spacers for that. (Message edited by Phelan on August 12, 2009) | ||

i'll try to remember to measure my spare axles at the shop. i think i remember but am not positive and don't want to give you bad info. tim | ||

My spare front rim (spacer ID is .668 and the bearing ID is .787) I hope this helps. | ||

what you do is take the two different bearings to a BEARING SUPPLY STORE ... Tell them that you want a bearing with this "ID" and this "OD" which they will do for you .... You also state that you want the best bearing available ... | ||

Good advice Buellistic, but there's not much "going" for me (no pun intended) until I get the bike put back together. I walk pretty much everywhere I go, and Amarillo is about 15 mi x 15 mi, so I don't go a lot of places that aren't close. The bike is my only transportation since I blew up my car last year. I'm not complaining; I live just 1/2 mile from work. But most all my parts come from the big brown truck. | ||

i've tried the bearing swap... i worked for 8 months to find the bearings with NO luck. only one company makes them and they are NOT for highway use. and i have yet to find anyone that wants to make a custom one off bearing (and i don't blame them either). some one makes the rear spacers to adapt the rear XB wheels to our tubers (American Sport Bike?), you use the XB rear rotor and sprocket and the stock tuber rear caliper works fine. but adapting the front wheel is a bit of a bitch (but I'm working on that  ). | ||

Nick, I have the rear spacers already. They are from Hals. Do you happen to know off-hand the ID of the tuber bearings??? If anyone does, I figure you do. | ||

Bert, I didn't even see your post until now. I looked up the tuber bearings via NSK P/N 6204-2RS, found in the KV, and the dimensions found match what you posted. The ID of the tuber bearings is 20 mm. Ironically, the OD is 47 mm as well. The P/N I used to look up the XB front wheels bearings was NTN 6005LU, also found on the KV. It has an ID of 25 mm, but an OD of 47 mm. Other than the ID and brand, the ONLY difference I found dimension-wise was that the XB bearing is 12 mm wide and the tuber bearing is 14 mm wide. With these findings, am I out of line to conclude that the Tuber bearings, axle, and spacers can be used if I shave 2 mm off the side of each spacer? | ||

Oddly, I just found some NSK 6204-2R. On another site that lists them at 12 mm wide. I guess the only thing to do from here is pick some up and check 'em out with a caliper. | ||

XB front wheel bearing dimensions: 25mm axle dia/47mm overall dia/12mm width XB rear wheel bearing dimensions: 30mm axle dia/55mm overall dia/13mm width now adjust to match the X1's 17mm front/25mm rear axle diameters. couldn't find the link but found my old files on that research | ||

A custom stepped wheel spacer will let you run the small axle in the larger bore bearings...do you know a good machinist? | ||

Nope. Don't need to. I already have the Hals spacers for the rear, and the tuber bearings fit the XB wheels. I "may" have to trim the stock S2 spacers to keep the proper width for the front end. Once I get the old wheel off and the new wheel in I'll take a measurement. I also will have to cut a spot in the new wheel for the speedometer drive. | ||

To clarify (in case you didn't read my earlier post), both the tube frame and the XB front wheel bearings have an OD of 47 mm, so I can press the tube frame bearings into the XB wheel and not have to build new axle spacers because the stock ones will fit. | ||

BTW, my XB wheels are on the way, with rear sprocket and rotor. I have, in my closet, an XB rotor, front caliper, and Hals spacers for the rear. Hopefully the wheels will get here early next week, and I'll strip and polish them. I found a source for the tuber NSK bearings, $25 for 10, and I still haw to order the front rotor bolt kit. With a bit of work and a touch of luck, I'll be done with the conversion in a couple weeks. I a killer idea about the caliper adapter too... |
