I know there have been threads on this before, but I'm curious what people are running now, so if you've got pics, post 'em!

I've currently got "Naked Bike Touring Bars", which are similar to the old "Superbike" bend, or Flanders "Cafe" bend. I like the bend but they touch the tank if pulled back to a comfortable position. Something slightly higher, but not as high as stock bars would be good.

Anybody ever tried riser blocks? Not sure how it would work as the instruments are attached...

I've looked at motocross bars, but most seem really wide.

mx bars can be cut down very easy, and they all usually have enough straight bar to move all your controls up. i have superbike bars on my x1 now and they come very very close to my tank at full lock, i had to make the pads on the frame thicker where it touches the forks so my starter button didnt touch the tank. if i did it all over, i would try to get 1 1/8" fat bar adapters and run a set of mid bend pro taper bars

Biggest problem I find is none of the stores around here carry much stock, they just carry one or two popular motocross/enduro bends, and that's it. I don't really want to order something without seeing it first.

My current setup:

Has anybody tried the riser blocks like the ones American Sport Bike have?

Anybody tried Renthal "Road Bike" bars, the low or medium?

I bought the riser blocks, but before I installed them, I came across some Blast bars, and used them instead. Now I find they don't work with the Handguards, so I'm going to change to some "real" S3T bars, which are almost like the Blast in Rise, but the low middle section is wider, and the bars are about 2" wider.

Oh, I'm feeling old! I used to put clubmans or clip-ons on my bikes, not riser blocks and higher bars... ; )

Dropped into another bike store today and they had the bars I have now and a few motocross 'bars, made it really easy to compare. Found a set of generic "Mini MX" bars hidden at the back of a shelf, which are almost identical bend to my bars but about 1.5" higher - perfect : ).
Half the price of Renthals too, should have a blue set tomorrow.

I'm looking for a set that would be better for touring. I want some that are higher and have more draw back. I'd like a set that would put my hands about 2" higher and 2" farther back. Would the Uly bars work? Anybody have any suggestions or thoughts?

Whisper -

IIRC, Blast bars are the same as S3T bars.. those should get you up about 2".. dunno about back 2" though. You might have that much room to play with rotating them back in their mount as long as the controls will still clear the tank.

You might even be able to salvage a pair of them off one of those cube things.

I have the super bike bend on mine. When I first got my bike I had the crossroads bars but they killed my wrist.

+1 on the superbike bars, although it is a tight squeeze on an x1. my starter button is centimeters away from my tank at full lock.

mine are too but my crossroads bars caused my horn and starter buttons off so it don't matter any way since they are not here any more.

I'm using a set of contour fat bars from pro taper (the "mini" bend):

With an adapter from precision engineering:

To reiterate, the Blast bars are not exactly the same as the S3T bars. I think the rise is the same, but the S3T are 2" wider, at least. I believe somebody posted a comparison picture before, I will post again whenever I do my swap.

I was running late for work this morning... Fired up the Buell, plugged in the walkman and attacked the traffic . New bars are "just right" for me for urban assault duties, very easy to move around on the bike and easy to turn my head to check traffic. Happy Bueller : D.

Need to find narrower mirrors now, or go back to conventional mirrors. It's a little wide for squeezing in between cars and trucks.

I really like the 7 degree down bars, look very cool, I imagine they'd be great on high speed sweepers. If I had two bikes...

The only bikes regular handlebars feel right on are dirt bikes, dual sports, and motards. Everything else must have clip-ons.

Daytona bars, about 20 bucks. Slightly lower and more forward then stock, but still comfortable for the longer hauls.

Steve,
those mirrors are Joker Machine, very nice indeed...
they have the same movement system of the car's so the bike does not transmit any vibration to the mirror, resulting always in a very clear image.
a bit pricy, but definitely worth...
I should have on my bike a couple of accessories I bought from you on ebay actually. ; )
