Ebutch:

The later S3's and X1's had a tie bar from the front motor mount to the frame as did the 2000 BLAST ...

"i" put this tie bar on my 1997 S3T ...

IMHO, this is why my FRONT ISOLATOR is lasting !!!

Ebutch:

Out of the 1999 S3 PARTS BOOK the TIE BAR ASM. PN 16219-79B is used 4 places ...

The BLAST TIE BAR ASM. is "BUELLschitte" PN L0499.T which "i" believe to be the same as the Harley-Davidson PN 16219-79B which you can get at any Harley-Davidson Dealer ...

"i" would ask for the Harley-Davidson Part Number so the Parts Person will not feel un-comfortable by hearing the word BUELL ...

Your 1999 S3 should already have one on it already ???

When "i" installed the "PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT" TIE BAR ASM. the motorcycle was setting as perfectly up-right with motorcycle weight on both wheels ...

Then "i" adjusted it so both attachment bolts would go through the EYE LETS then tightened every thing ...

Ya know how to keep us in hanging Butch. Can ya make one pic a side by side shot. I'd like to see what makes the S2 mount different.

PICHERS!! Must have pichers with this thread!

I was just looking at frame differences between the '02 X1 and '97 S3 tonight, and think I'll have a frame brace welded into the left side of the S3 frame just like the one on the X1 frame. I didn't see any differences in the front tie bar mount though..

phil,
there is an extra link on the 99's and up at the upper forward engine mount that stiffens the front laterally that ebutch is adding to the beefier s2 forward engine mount for his s3.

Alright that extra brace is the one I'm talking about. My x1 probably doesn't have the other difference in tie bar mount design that you all with s2s are talking about.

Guess ill find out for sure when butch posts pichers : p. Right now I'm a little lost..

I sometimes wonder why this mount wasn't made from steel tubing like the rest of the frame. Weight savings on that mount can't be more than 30 percent. Humm... there is a project.

hmm.. '97 S3 has a front engine mount with the tab (the right side in butch's pics), but no place for the tie bar to mount onto the frame.

I'm glad this topic came up, I've never noticed that difference before.

Pkforbes87:

"i" added the "TAB" on my 1997 S3T frame so the TIE BAR could be added ...

The RE-CALL(1999)front motor mount had the "TAB" for the TIE BAR bolt ...

This front motor mount TIE BAR was on all S3/S3T and X1's from 1999 on except for the 1999 on M2's

GUELL:

"i" copied the "TAB" of first 1999 S3 that "i" came across and had a professional
welder attach the "TAB", cleaned and touched up the frame so it looks like it came from the factory that way ...

All you have to do on a 1999 and later M2 is add the TIE BAR ...
