in a nutshell...making a left turn, two turn lanes, I'm on the inside. There are two cars in the outside lane, they are together, both of them come into my lane. The first car attmepts to make an illegal uturn, the second car, a van, stops right in front of me. I am still in the turn, I look to the right and try to get into the right lane, but did not realize that the van was stopped. I splatted into the back of the van. Only going about 20-25 mph.

I locked up the front brake trying to stop, the rear end came straight up. I'm feeling fine right now. But am going to be in need of some parts....
Got a 97 M2, Bent the bars, need a shifter assy and foot pegs and also a clutch lever...may need some more stuff, will check it out later.

I'm sure my wife will try to get me to sell the bike, but that ain't happening...

Mike

Glad you're ok and it's nice to know California is not the only state with bad drivers (although we have more than our fair share).

I hope you called the LEOs. Those drives need to be cited for endangering your life.

just woke up, a little sore but I think I will be fine. Called the cops, of course neither of the drivers wanted me too. They both said don't worry about it, we will take care of it.. I didn't go for it, I think they were a little pissed...oh well.

The police report has not been completed. I received a paper with my info and the other drivers info and it has a # on it. I have to call the police station with the reference # and see if it has been filed. He said it should take 5-7 days.

I think the girl was given a ticket, but not sure. After she got her paperwork she was all pissy.

well, getting ready to eat and back to work, thanks for the support.
Mike

question about the frame. The lower left side, where the left front foot peg attaches, is bent. Do any of you think it can be straightened? I can take a pic tomorrow if needed.

When the bike fell on its left side, the peg and bars took the brunt of the weight...

mike sorry to hear about it. my low got totaled because some girl was probably talking on the phone when she ran into the back of it when the daughter was riding it a couple years ago. i live over in the tampa area and i can't wait for the day that we move north again.

some people tend to think a frame can be unbent but if nothing else look for replacement.

It's always great to be alive.Good luck with the outcome. I think here in pa. if you hit someone from behind
it's considered your fault no matter what.

Ed, did you use propane for heating the bent lever? Did the black finish look OK afterwards?

Mike, I may have some of the stock, solid rubber pegs if that's what you're looking for. I'll check my spare and take off parts box, see if there's anything else useful in there.

Glad you are okay!!

Out here she would have seen an "improper lane change", "improper lookout" and maybe a "failure to yield" ticket.
