I've finally completed polishing the primary, cam cover, and rocker covers. It was suggested that I clear coat them, and polyurethane was mentioned. Has anyone here put clear coat over polish? What did you use? Poly seems to be oriented toward woodwork. | ||

I wouldn't...I was warned to stay away from it for the cracking and discoloring that will happen. Now you get to polish mine! lol | ||

You can't afford me!!! I am a little smarter about it now. I'd guess I spent in the neighborhood of 30 hours on mine. The primary and cam covers were really dinged and pitted, though. | ||

I think shops can do clear powder coating. Probably pricey though. I remember taking off the factory coating on my covers and lower legs on the Sportster years ago. Another chore... Safe ride, Gary in Oaktown | ||

Ps : It also chips road stone and radial tires sandblast it all the time.So polish me polish me.My bikes need paint from constant use ,chips-ahoooy ,chips from use so polish me paint me or just have them as trophys.  | ||

You need a special self-etching clear coat that is made for clear coating aluminum (wheels and such). Regular clears are made to bond to color coats, not to metal. Any reputable body shop (ie: not Maaco!) should be able to do it for you. Chances are, it will still yellow in time. | ||

Any coating will take the jewel like shine away, just enjoy maintaining it. | ||

I had someone mention that Eastwood has a spray intended for wheels. I'll have to ponder which way to go. It's all ready to assemble, but now I have a delay anyway. The S3 needs a lifter replaced.... |
