The starter gasket went out on my 01 M2 for good yesterday. It had been leaking for awhile. I was wondering if this is a common problem like the rocker box gaskets. I have 12000 miles on her now. (Message edited by sstlouisjak on July 30, 2009) | ||

My 19997 S3T starter gasket went out, "BUT" the replacement gasket was UP-DATED type gasket and now "i" have a lot more miles on the new up-dated gasket that the OEM one ... | ||

Mine lasted around 13000 miles ('00 X1). I think bikes which tend to sit for a long time (like 1200 miles in 8 years) have more gasket/seal problems than the ones ridden regularly. Just an observation. | ||

Sstlouisjak: If your 01 M2 came OEM with the old type rocker gasket between the head and lower rocker arm cover thy will need to be replaced with the ONE PIECE GASKET,rockercover/cylinder head,valve & push rod sides PN 16800-84A which is the same for both heads ... | ||

yes common problem. changed mine last year. the new gasket will not leak | ||

so you take the starter gasket, moisten it, and then it grows into a complete gasket set?..... | ||

The starter gasket is one of many common leaks on the tubers I never thought I'd get mine 100% leak free but cometic gaskets did the trick - they simply do not leak! |
