Is there any difference in fuel filler caps on the FI versus carb'd models? I seem to have twisted the locking tab too far and it has stripped the stop tab on that black piece. Locking lever turns farther than it should and I'm worried I might not get the cap out once the tab is turned and pushed down.

I'm in the market for a replacement if anyone has one available.

yep. I've got caps from fi and carb bikes, they all work on the manta and x1 tanks perfectly.

btw the black rubber on the bottom of the cap and the black gasket around the tank hole both will be a PITA to work with if the tank has been empty or low for any lengthy amount of time.

Came across a guy with an old M2 tank in primer that had a cap that worked. Problem was that I over tightened that nylock nut which affected the cam action of the lever. That's what caused the black plastic piece to get damaged. Had to play with the tightness of that nut a couple of times before I could get the correct seal with the cap. I have a CF kit on my original cap and that's why I needed to do the replacement piece and retain the top section.

I had the bottom plastic part strip on my S2.Take a fender washer and use a file to cut flats on the hole inside, Then cut points with a triangle file on the outside of the washer.Suspend the washer on a bolt in a vice and heat it with a propane torch. With the points almost glowing, push the plastic part of the cap that fits through the filler neck onto the hot washer and let it cool. Once assembled It will now move solidly with the tab on the top of the cap

That's a great tip. Since I have the spare piece I'll try it this weekend and then I'll have another operational cap for the spare tank.

I just saw the tip in The X1 Files about my problem. The fix prescribed there was to simply fill the void in the bottom of the plastic piece with JB Weld which will keep all the parts together. Brilliant! I like your fix too so it's a toss up. Now where did I see that fender washer...
