Hi all,

I'm one of those nut's that takes 1000 miles road trips on an'01 X1. I recently got the bike and am looking for help and advice in making it a bad ass sports-touror I'm wanting to find some sort of rack that will allow me to pack more gear on. I'm also thinking relocating the turn signals would be a good idea. I also need a tank bad and am looking for suggestions on what has worked well for you guys.

My other bike is a KLR650, that is just a pack mule, but slow as on too...

Thanks for the help!

Ditto on the Ventura Rack System. I have them on two of my bikes.

Kick ass pic. On my last trip, I had the bike packed with cortech saddle bags, a tail bag made for a KLR, duffle(bed roll), tent, thermos, water bottle, and hobo coffee pot. I'll post a pic next trip out. I've got rear packs that will work, but really need a rack of some kind.

Actually, I need to fix my bike before anymore runs.... Kept cutting out, was told it was the CPS, and totally FUBARed the whole thing by taking off the right-side cover, and the F'ing cam with it!
Oh well, it's a learning curve....

Firstgear Onyx saddlebags and tailbag, Buell tank bag. The Buell saddlebags fit a lot better than the Firstgear, but they're also a lot smaller.

As for relocating the turn signals, I got a carbon fiber undertail from Airtech without the signal holes cut out, and an LED integrated tail light from clear alternatives. The lights are very bright, and I've got no signals in the back to get in the way of saddlebags. My only complaint is that the white row of lights that shine down onto the license plate stopped working. They flash once in a while, but I've checked and all the wiring is good. It's got to be a loose solder connection on the circuit board but I superglued the lens on so that's not getting fixed any time soon!

You dudes are my hero's. I didn't want to get an integrated tail light because I thought having signals out the side would be easier for others to see. But they are a pain in the ass. What buell tank bag is that?

The one I've got is specifically for X1's. It woudln't work for other models because of the different way that the rear of the tank mounts to the frame. The only way I know of to get one is to keep watching eBay.

I don't remember for sure what tank bag X1_ was using.

The bag for the X1 was called the "Amigo" tank bag. I had one on my X1, Buellie Mae (may she rest in peace). Part number 61600-99Y. Out of production (obviously) but several dealers claim to still have one on the shelf, according to H-DNet:
Harley-Davidson of Rocklin (916) 624-9211
Lancaster Harley-Davidson, Inc. (717) 464-2703
Knoxville Harley-Davidson (865) 689-2454
Shumate Harley-Davidson Spokane (509) 928-6811
Deluxe Harley-Davidson of Gillette (307) 687-2001

They originally listed for $129.00 Hope this helps!

Just picked up a Cortech tail bag and switched out the buckles to match the ones on Buell saddle bags, for my trip to Indianapolis GP later this month.

1800 miles with a Ventura pack and the aftermarket Buell seat. The Ventura pack is setup to be used with the stock underseat tray.

The seat on shadow's bike is a Buell Select seat.

There's one for sale here, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it climb up to $250 or higher before the auction is over.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BUELL-LIGHTNING-CUS TOM-SEAT-MINT-CONDITION-BUELL_W0QQitemZ32041173026 0QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories? hash=item4a9a070154&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

I have one with orange trim on my X1 and it is a more comfortable seat than the stocker. Some complain that it's too soft but I only weigh 130 so its fine for me. It is scooped out more than the stock seat, a little wider, and the rear and sides of the rider's seating area are more defined than the round edges on the stock seat.

The Fairing is very good for cutting the wind. The bike is definitely more stable at higher speeds. Unfortunately I can't find them for sale anymore. It makes more anxious during spirited riding knowing one slip could permanently change the look of my bike.

I have the same fairing as you,and I like it a lot. However I don't know anything about it other than it looks cool. Do you have any info on it?

It's a Euro-fairing... also called an Odyssey fairing. They stopped making them 3 years ago.
