I thinks theres a special mount for the cables
that takes up the extra length?

Youve got half of the answer already. Call Al at American Sport Bike. Problem solved.

I'm running the HRS42 on my M2. The original M2 cable [and it was the correct unit, I bought it from Buell] was too long. I bought the adapter unit that Al has for sale but it wouldn't fit. The male end was too fat and the other end was too narrow so I had to stick it in my drill chuck and turned the oversized male end down to the correct OD. I then opened the female end up with a drill and Voila!, everything fit and the slop in my cable was gone!
