Well, I'm down again. This time with starter trouble (I'm about 95% positive). It sounds like the starter is not engaging, it'll spin but not engage. This really stinks because I've only put about 80 miles on it since putting the primary cover back on and it'll have to come back off to get the starter off. I took the starter apart when I had the motor apart and it looked good, cleaned it up and re-installed it.

What have you guys used as replacements? Stock replacement, or have you upped the kw rating? IIRC stock is 1.4 and can be upped to 1.75. I'd like something with a little more uumph since I put the 1250 on it. Any suggestions?

Factory starters are tough to beat. If you're 100% positive you don't have a battery or wiring issue, then pull out the starter, mount in a sturdy vise (or stand on it) and connect it to a known good battery. See if the gear isn't being thrown or not. I know some auto parts stores will actually do this for you.

might be just the bendix clutch, mine
did the same sort of thing, it would engage but not turn the engine.

Well I did all the test this and that and clean it but as long as you do this I just replaced the starter and have not looked back. I do not know much about the 1250 kit but why not get the bigger starter. Good luck.
