So I was thinking about putting a K&N filter on my stock snorkle of my 01' X1. I know people have done it, let me know how it worked. I would like to know how it worked as far as performance.

Do a search for "Econowinder" and you will find a lot of good info. I think Preybird has that set up.

K&N makes a stock replacement filter. I had one in my S3 until I got the Pro series set up.

I did a dyno run with both with and without the K&N.

Result? I only gained 1 hp in the very last 500 rpm of engine speed (before the rev limiter cut in). Now ask yourself how often you ride the engine like this...

IMHO, unless your paycheck requires you to be on the podium then forget the K&N. They allow more dirt and require more maintenance than the paper air filter.

In fact, K&N acknowledges that the K&N filters do not filter as well as paper air filters.
