OK, my front pads are just about shot so I called our local Buell dealer only to find that they can order a set of pads that will arrive in 5 days. I was **less** than impressed as I believe I could go to just about any Honda, Kawasaki, or Yamaha dealer and find brake pads for any model they service....in stock.

So what other brand uses Nissin calipers with the same pads as the X-1?

I prefer to buy local, but I may go to the site sponsors.
Thanks

i"ve worked part counters at different motorcycle dealers... Harley/buell, yamaha, etc.

and as i far as I'm concerned... the only brake pads that will fit your bike are the ones listed for your BUELL. no other manufacturer shares the same calipers as us (atleast not enough to where we can swap out pads).

welcome to the Buell world, brother... parts can be a bitch to come by!

All you need do is look in their Parts Unlimited book. There's a wide selection available - EBC, LRB, DP, Braking, etc.

Your local dealer likely doesn't carry the pads in stock because they likely don't have many people asking for it. Kind of like asking for Durian at your local grocery store...

"...no other manufacturer shares the same calipers as us"

Tex - That remains to be seen. I believe certain Kawasaki cycles use Nissin brake components and those components may be the same as those used on the X-1.
If you have ever worked on antique cars you will find that there are a large number of parts that may not share the same part number but are in fact interchangeable. In general the number of actual manufacturers for any item is smaller than you may think.
After my investigations I will share my findings.

Sloppy - Do you actually believe that stocking OEM pads for a Buell X-1 is an exotic request??? This is an H-D/Buell dealership! If I went to a Ford/Mercury/Lincoln dealership and asked for brake pads for a Mercury Sable and they told me that I could place and order and come back in 5 days there is absolutely a zero probability that I would ever return to that dealer.

I give this dealership more leeway because the owner is very nice person, in the past he has employed some knowledgeable Buell personnel, but I plan to discuss this with him the next chance I get. Until then I will buy through those who support this site as Fasted recommended.
