My husband has a 2000 X1 lightning and we had the front and rear tire replaced about a month ago, and we are now changing the front wheel bearing again and when we took the 2 bolts out of the front brake caliper I decided to clean them up and when I was looking at them I noticed a hard substance on 1 of the bolts so as I was trying to clean it I found out that it was metal in the threads. So I inspected the brake caliper and come to find out the guy that put the tires back on he tore the threads out of the caliper. So now we are despertly in need of help for some suggestions or if any1 would know what all years or models interchange with the 2000 X1 mellenium limited edition. Thank You for the help.

My suggestion would be go back to the guy that did the damage..and see what he will do to help. Other than that I am not helpful. Sorry

Near total ignorance here, but I'm pretty sure any of the 6p calipers -- the PMs and the Nissan -- will fit these bikes, though I too would bring the bike back to the shop that worked on it first. I WOULD NOT accept a heli-coil on something like that. Better to get something new or used, I think.

(I think there's a $125 caliper on Ebay right now...)

FWIW: I think the PMs are suppose to have a bit stronger bite, but the Nissan are more sophisticated and lighter. Most mortals probably wouldn't notice a difference ; )

Not sure that I would take anything back to that shop. You should be able to heli-coil the caliper, if not they show up on Ebay occasionally. Check with board sponsors or your Buell dealer for a replacement.

S1, M2, S3 or X1 calipers would work. Is it the two bolts that hold the caliper to the front fork or the two bolts that hold the brake pads in? The reason I ask is this, if it is the two bolts holding it to the fork then you need to check the fork mount as well.

Plus 1 on the heli-coil.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. We ended up using the heli-coil do to the fact that we have 2 kids and Mountianfest is this coming weekend had to work fast and cheap. Got the caliper on and it tightened up nicly but we can not get the brakes to pump up. We keep bleeding them does it take alot to do 4 the 6 piston calipers? Thanks for all the help. Todd & Angie

I've found that pumping fluid from the bleeder bolt on the caliper back up into the master cylinder is the easiest way to bleed. After doing that for a while if you don't get good brake feel, use a zip tie to keep pressure on the brake lever overnight, then check them again. Leaving the system under pressure for a few hours can bleed off a lot of air that's hard (for me) to get out by bleeding alone.

I use a veterinary syringe and some clear 3/8" hose for the reverse bleeding. There are a few posts here with pictures of similar setups, just do a search.

You can also remove the system from the bike and bleed it on the workbench if you can't find a syringe like PK uses.

Put something between the brake pads about as thick as the rotor so your pistons in the caliper don't pop out.

Put the master on the bottom with your line going uphill or straight up and the caliper up high. The bleeder valve should be the highest point. You might have to move all parts of the system around and tap then with a rubber mallet to dislodge air.

This way when you bleed the air bubbles will want to naturally go up to the caliper and out.
