I searched here and KV.

I have a Braking Wave rotor with about 500 miles on it. I'm over the look of it and thinking of replacing with something new. There's plenty of info on the waves.

I will sell it once I decide on a replacement. It works quite well.

I'm a former roadracer so performance is the most important factor.

Anyone use an EBC prolite, or do they make the new XC series for oldschool tubers?

I remember seeing something from Ferrodo (sp?) but can't find a pic or review.

I'm open to any ideas and appreciate the input.

Worst case is I keep what I have, and that's not so bad.

My used bike came with the BrakeTech ductile cast iron rotor, it works pretty well. I think for braking performance, it would be hard to beat. What is the material used for the Wave?
The ultimate would be one of those ceramic from BrakeTech, but they only make them for Ducatis. It you had the Brembo dual-disc kit on your bike, you could replace the Brembo rotors with ceramic. I think that would be the absolute best.

p.s. check my profile, it shows the rotor

Hey that one looks sweet. I'ma gonna have to check them out.

I think the Braking Wave is Stainless Steel.

Anyone else out there know of other options?

And what is the difference between the UK and US version of the EBC prolite?

I've got a wave rotor on my 99 S3 that is warped a little, and making me nuts. I need to replace it. If you decide which way your going to go, let me know and I'll give you a fare shake, and it saves me some green. Good Luck on the search.

Joe,

What pads are you using with that rotor? I thought I had a warped rotor then I switched from OEM pads to the Lyndall Golds and they stopped pulsing, had some kind of build-up from the stock material I guess.

I have a Ferodo disc I put on a few months ago. I wasn't really happy with it until I put in Ferodo Sintergrip ST pads which have more initial bite than the Lyndall Gold (too long to warm up for me) and EBC HH pads I tried.
I haven't really used in anger yet, but performance seems better than OEM rotor and pads around town, and I'm very happy with it overall. I'm hoping to go for a good ride saturday and finally get it nice and hot : D.

I have the EBC race rotor on my S1W. This is the only picture I could find...

I believe they are still available through American Sport Bike

"Brembo rotors with ceramic. I think that would be the absolute best."

I can't speak for a "street" bike application but had ceramic rotors (carbon ceramic to be exact) on my GT3 and they were pretty much useless for around town driving and are noisy as hell. They cost an arm and a leg too. Like everything else, it is a matter of trade-off. On a car the weight savings are significant and you definitely "feel" the difference when you hit bump exiting a corner...

Hey Lemon,

It looks like you have a see through rear belt guard. I saw one online once along with a bottom guard but couldn't ever find it again. Is that clear but tinted? Do you know who makes it.

Nice bike by the way.

I think it may come down to which one is the lightest between the EBC prolite and the Ferodo.

Are there any other options? Thanks everyone.

Convert to an XB front wheel/rotor/caliper : p. Sounds like I'm being a jackass but I'm not, that's what I'm working on for my S2...

Ufft. I know Phelan. Trust me I've thought about that one many times. XBs stop and look great.

I don't think I could give up my PM wheels and I already dumped some pretty good $ on traxxion dynamic fork internals that I couldn't recover.

Kalali,

I called Braketech they make a composite carbon brake rotor that is awesome. Start at $1,100 but probably worth it. Their carbon also works on the street.

The problem is most bikes have 320mm. Tubers have 340 so they don't make them.

I don't think Brembo makes 340mm either.

Keep the ideas coming.

Do you have the one that looks like Lake Bueller above^^^

Do you know if it's a stainless steel rotor or is it iron? Does it rust very easy? That's iron and stops better.

Same one as lake bueller, its iron, and it stops far far better, its a very progressive feel to it too.

So far i havnt had any rust issues at all

Skntpig, I know what you mean. I'm not gonna give up my WP ROMA forks either, or the Carbon Fiber S2 front fender. I think an XB fender would look funky on my S2. I have the spacers on the way to fit the XB rear on the tuber axle. I'm either going to find some spacers to fit the front wheel on the tuber axle or bore the fork lowers r use the XB axle. An adapter to run the ZTL I have (or the ZTL2 I hope to get later) on the stock lower won't be too hard to build. On a side note, how much did the Traxxion Dynamics rebuild cost if you don't mind me asking and what did you have done? You can PM me if you want. I tried calling RaceTech but the number is not working? I even sent them an email inquiry but so far no answer.

I made the belt guards from perforated steel. Originally painted silver they stood out, then I painted them black and from some angles you hardly notice them. I have a close up pic somewhere...

If it helps, I tried to weigh the Ferodo rotor before I put it on... My bathroom scales aren't accurate at that low end of the scale, so all I know is it's within 200 grams of the OEM rotor.
Ferodo is stainless, but will rust if your dog "relieves" himself on the rotor : |

I love my Traxxion Dynamics forks.

To help new folks that search I'm going to start a new fork thread instead. This way the info doesn't get hidden here.
