Well, I did it. I finally found replacements for the knurled nuts that hold the saddlebag tether cables to the S2 saddlebags. They aren't blacked out like the (obsolete) factory pieces...but they are the EXACT same pieces, in brass. Got 'em at Lowe's. 10-32 knurled nuts, $1.15/pair, manufacturer is Hillman. Looks like the Hillman number is 880461 (if I'm reading the bag right). I bought all four bags (8 nuts) they had in stock at the moment. Main reason being, I've "safetied" my saddlebag lids with the same cable tethers that keep the lid from flopping when you open itn (the tethers are still available new from Buell). I put one nut/screw - with the tether attached - at the top inner surface of the inner saddlebag between bag and fender, and have another nut/screw on the lid itself. That way, I latch the bags shut with the factory key latches, and safety them shut with the tethers. I did my big lids first (they were on at Homecoming), and now that I have enough nuts I did the narrows, too. Added bonus is, the tether cables aren't flapping in the breeze anymore on the thin lids New, unmatched brass knurled nuts went inside the bags. Black OEM nuts, outside for the safety cables. I'll take some pics if folks are interested... |
