i was gonna go a a good cruise today was heading down the highway about 80-85 all the sudden i hear a ticking sound i pull over and see half of the teeth are missing on the belt and it was torn 3/4 of the way thru, it only has 2000 or so miles on it, i check it almost every day and it seemed fine little less than i inch of play, so i was wondering what the hell could ve happened i could nt see anything that could ve done this. i called the guy i bought it from and he said he would call the guy whi put it on and see if there was something he could , mabye was a bad belt and would replace it???? hopefully, really ruined the weekend no one can get a belt under a week of coarse!!

As others will soon chime in:
The factory manual for belt tension is wrong, but even it calls for 1 1/2", I think. Better is about 2 12" but the only way to get it right is to support the bike, remove the bolt at one end of the shock, then swing it through it arc and make sure it still has a little slack at the tightest point (at the tightest pooint on the pulley.

You may also have had the wrong tooth pitch on the belt if the previous owner had bought the XB belt and got the wrong one. (I don't know which is the right one.)

Welcome to the club. My first went 41,000 miles. My second 4500 miles. I had a blown rear shock that might have had something to do with #2.

if you dont get Buellistics info use 2 1/2 inch deflection that has worked for me on the 06 XB belt no problems. However Buellistics information and adjustment is right on and demonstates a correct adjustment throughout the bike.

I busted mine too this weekend....I was using a Panther RPP ultra cord belt

Had roughly 8,000 miles on it.

Thankfully PKforbes was with me and got my rescue vehicle.

Were all the missing teeth continuous in one section of the belt? How many, if you can tell?

My last belt went like that. I was told that it was TOO scary loose.
Mine was downright floppy.
I guess they need some tension to support the teeth. Just not actually tight like the book says.
They usually just snap.

Mine is now "Less Scary Loose" : )
