OMW home tonight, every time I pulled in the clutch lever and let her coast I got the feeling that something was dragging the bike down slower. Well when I got home I could hear scraping and feel extra resistance when pushing her into the garage so I checked both brakes - the rear was dragging. I manually pulled the pedal up and it got all pressure off the rear brake and freed things up. Is the master cylinder shot? I don't have a lot of experience with brakes and don't know what would cause my symptoms. I use the rear brake a lot - just not for slowing down. Whatever is required to fix it I wanna make sure that it doesn't improve the braking enough to allow me to lock up the rear tire. | ||

It probably has about 8 years worth of grime and crud build up behind the piston hanging it up. A rebuild probably couldn't hurt and would be a good start. | ||

If you did not recently dis-asemble your rear tire, the chances are the problem resides with your caliper! | ||

Pk check the condition of the pads, the floating caliper can get in a bind causing unusual wear, which causes binding try flushing the fluid out of the system if the pads are good, check the pins and bushing that the caliper floats on. I did a write up on this its in the KV some where.... | ||

A red light went off when you said you had to pull the lever up. Did you recently adjust your footpeg mount or install new ones? I've found there is a fine line when adjusting the peg mount / brake lever pivot. Too loose and the peg is floppy, too tight and it won't let the brake lever return, therefore dragging the brake. Use plenty of blue loctite. I adjust until the bake lever won't spring back and then back it off just until it does. | ||

Skntpig I'm betting that's the problem. My right peg started backing out the other day and I tightened it down pretty good. Probably got it too tight. | ||

oddly enough i just started having the same problem if i tighten the foot peg it sticks if i back it off a little any pressure on the peg and it sticks. | ||

well i just got mine "fixed" made a little custom washer to go between the frame and peg | ||

Mine did this too. The paint on the frame gets scuffed up and drags against the pivot of the pedal. The boomerang-style shifter pivots do this too. Solution is easy; file the pivot area down to provide clearance for the plastic bushing. Grease it up for smoothness. If the frame paint is removed at this spot, the peg can be tightened up without binding. |
