I have a X1 Millennium and the color scheme on it just bores me. Is there really anything lost on one of the special edition bikes by changing the color completely? I'm thinking about completely stripping the bike down and doing different paint and powder coat from the ground up.

I've also thought about leaving the frame color the same and jut buying a new set of plastics to paint and keeping the originals. By keeping the frame the same color I can put the original plastics back on and she's back to her factory setting.

Opinions?

our bikes are horrible at keeping value, special edition or original or not. its only value is to you, so make it yours.

Agreed.

The only possible value is if your bike is low mileage and 100% original. Even then, most buyers don't care and won't pay any extra.

I hate to do it because of the limited numbers produced, but I'll be re-powdercoating a perfectly good "Bronze" S3 frame some time in the future. I'm just not digging the color even though it's rare.

What colors are you going with on the X1?

Yep. I paid $3700 last year for a low mileage bike. I have put another $1000.00 in it and advertised it for sale @ $4200 and got almost no interest.
I have about $1500.00 in parts on the way to me and will spend another 2300 this winter so...
3700 + 1000 + 1500 + 2300 = $8500.00
After all that I could list it for $4200 again and hear crickets.
Sooo - Mod it and enjoy it, these things aint goin (value-wise) nowhere but down.

I also agree that it's a bummer to do...but even low mile unique bikes don't have much value- I mean, it's the difference between $2500 and $4000...whoopee.

On a side note, the OP said "the color scheme on it just bores me", and I thought to myself "How can it be boring?"...then I clicked to look at his profile pic- and I agreed. : )

I have an Millennium edition also, i also have a set of orange plastics and a orange subframe for it. Makes it less boring.

I've noticed since buying mine that there are a lot of parts that are just a dull cast aluminum finish. Swing-arm, triple trees, wheels, etc. I'm going to powder coat those parts and I was thinking while I had the bike torn down that far I might as well do everything.

ive got an extra subframe and started to polish a swingarm for sale, its easier to have extra parts to work on so you can still ride your bike!

but anyways....why not just buy another frame for pennies, then another set of plastics and basically have a new bike, then be able to put it back to stock when ever you feel like swapping again. my swingarm will be black soon, as well as my triple trees.



ya its a limited edition bike.....so what, it has value to me but nobody else. i just enjoy the thought that i will probably never run into one at a bike night....heck i only see about three tubers a year at bike events

I never thought of buying a sub-frame and swing-arm, as well as plastics to basically have two set-ups. How exactly would it work though with the VIN being different on the frames? Does the motor have a VIN as well that is linked to a frame? The hardest thing would be with the insurance company and having the correct VIN with them.

if your keeping it whats the big difference, unless it was stolen. i honestly only know where my vin sticker is, i couldnt tell you where the frames are stamped, it has to be around the head tube area.

with extra parts you just save down time.

i will make you a good deal on a smoothed swingarm and stock tail section.....my swingarm has the mounting tabs for the rear hugger and belt gaurd ground off and smoothed.
