it has a lot of nice stuff installed. pm wheels, race filter, vance and hines, pulley guard, aluminum swingarm, low mileage. recall shock. i think a nice one should go about 5500 but the cheaper the better for the buyer and it is a buyer's market these days. you will enjoy it.

WOW thats one nice S1. I would ask
$4500 - $5000 if it were mine. Ask your self this. How many nice clean S1s do you see for sale. Sure they are out there but you can actually put your hands on this one.

Look at this thing, stock signals, heat shields still on it, PM wheels, all the belt guards, carbon air cleaner, etc etc.
Cmon if your looking for a nice S1 grab it.

I agree. 4500 would be a sweet deal. Even sweeter if the original parts were available.

the owner of the bike has set the price at $3000.00 firm It that was mine I would not sell it for twice that amount.

Ustorque, the S2 and S1 and two very different animals. Think about what you are going to use the bike for. If you are going to rip up the local area then the S1 is great. If you want to do some distance and have a little comfort I would get a S3 or S2.

If I wanted the best of both worlds and could only have one it would be a M2.

The key to having a reliable tuber is preventative maintenance.

BAH!

I have done 700+ miles in a day on my S1 It is possible : )

And it hardens you up for when you get the S2 now I can stay in the saddle for 200 miles when I switch to reserve : D

But you were not at MBV....

Back on topic. Yes the S1 is a sexy bike. I have one!

A little story: When I returned from some sh$t hole overseas I had been reading about the S2, M2 and S1. I has seen a RR and RS in 1992 (I wish I bought them both) so I was familar with Buell. As soon as I saw a S1 in person I went up to my ears in debt to own it.

Back in those days a Sportster was my touring bike. At least for 80 thousand miles it was. The S1 was for fun. I was hooked. It was the most sexy bike I had ever seen. If I did not have the Sporty no way would I had been able to keep it. It beat me up pretty bad. A lot of that has to do with age and weight.

I know people that have only a S1 but I was simply trying to get Ustorque to think about what he wants to use it for. If you define your requirements correctly everything else will fall into place and you can focus on one type of bike.

I like it, I want it but I already have one. No way does it do for me what a S2 does but I am little older now, not much wiser but older.

If Lynn gives me the heads up on another purchase I will sell my S1W to buy another S2.

Frank, my better judgement tells me that i already have the xb9 and i should find an S2 to tour with(what i really want)....but i still have an irresponsible streak in me though!!!!

What a surprise.....I just decided to take a look at what's up on the BWB site...and lo' and behold....a topic for discussion is MY 96 Lightning!!!

Ustorque....thanks for posting the photos for me. I was a little suspicious when I received an email from you via Craigslist asking for high resolution photos..Now I have my answer....I'm relieved to know that they ended up here (as opposed to some bogus listing in some other state as part of some scam to bilk money out of some unsuspecting fellow Buell-er).

... Thanks for the favorable comments (all)

Since registering on this forum, I've wanted to post photos on the site...just never got around to it.

Court...you're absolutely right...I wish I had the original take off parts...but unfortunately I don't

***I had a recent post/question about tracking down a missing front brake caliper support pin. Take a look at the photo of the front wheel/caliper...(nice Pep Boys road fix, Ferris)....

I think this bike is well worth the asking price. I love my X1 but I think S1, specially in red, is the sexiest of all Buells. I am just glad this guy is not down the street from me...I would have been forced to beg, borrow, or steal to come up with the cash to have this bike in my garage.

Having (like Frank) both an S1W and an S2...you're gonna love 'em both, for totally different reasons. I haven't been riding my S2 since Homecoming because parts of it are getting clearcoated ; ) , so that gives me a chance to ride my S1W more. Every single time I ride that bike, I cackle in my helmet at least once. DAMN is that a fun bike. I've got the solo seat, billet pegs, and Buell Race bars (0 degree clipon style) - it fits me like a glove, 34" inseam, 36" arms, and all. My right arm still tingles a little bit after longer rides (damn torn rotator cuff last year), but it's tingling less and less every time. My license whimpers quite a bit, though..."self control...must exercise self control....".

My biggest grin on the S1W is the gearing. It's P*E*R*F*E*C*T for blasting back roads. The S2, with the Euro gearbox, is a little taller and I find more downshifting is required to keep it on the ball (I've thunderstormed the S2, so HP is virtually identical). S1W, just twist-n-go.

As to price...easily worth in the 4-5k range in a good market. If you can afford to wait...but right now, lots of folks are selling because they need to sell, so its a buyers market. I paid 6k for my S1W four years ago, with 1100 (actual!) miles on the clock. I have yet to regret it. I'll also never sell it, or my S2.

Court - I thought all S1's came with the (carbon fiber) hugger-mounted license plate?
