Whats everybody? I am having some problems with my neutral light. The light will not come on when in neutral. Also having problem shifting gears. The shifter seems real stiff shifting up gears and down shifting but its not all the time. Its happens about 50% of the time when I'm riding. It just started today. One second its fine shifting through the gears the next second its just all jacked up. Also i keep getting false neutrals between 2nd and 5th gear. Any ideas whats wrong? Thanks in advance.

Dan

Neutral light can be a bad wire connection at the instrument panel. Play around with the wires and see if it improves.

With regards to shifting, sounds like you have a loose detent plate. Common problem. You'll likely have to open the primary cover and remove the shifter drum. I recommend a Baker replacement. I got the whole 5 speed rebuild and the bike shifts like my dirt bike now. I wish Buell would have contracted with Baker to build their transmissions...

False neutrals sound like a detent plate.. Mine was doing the same thing but I kept riding it for a couple weeks. Ended up replacing the stator too because a piece of the detent plate broke off and chewed up the copper wires

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I'm going to have to order a service manual because I'm not sure what a Detent Plate is. I'm not to experienced on working on these motors but theres only one way to learn. Does anybody have the link to order the Baker Replacement and a Service Manual. Thanks

I was also having problems with my bike finding false neutrals. My problem was the actual shifter itself being loosed on the shifter shaft going into the transmisson. I have a after market shifter setup that goes up and over my clutch cover. So I just tightened my shifter and now it shifts like it should. Easy fix, might just check it to make sure. Good luck, Matt Tully
