Ok I've read a few threads abt tuning on here and I'd like some of ya'lls thoughts on the PCIII as a tuner for this era buell. I'm a tech for a living we have a Dyno at my shop I've used a number of tuners and I love the power commander as a tuner for the bikes i work on... harleys stock and built , metric bikes also. Its very tuner friendly being able to tune on the fly and you can change fuel as well as spark. The pigtailing into the biked wiring harness is problematic SOMETIMES but other than that a good tuner.

I already have a pciii for this bike just havnt got the bike up and running yet but will real soon.. waitin on some parts..

Give me your thoughts!

Im pretty sure everyone is going to tell you to ditch it, ECMSPY does everything the PCIII does only better and it is fairly easy to use.

I've not had a chance to use the ecmspy. So i dont know how it works? How does it work better the the PC3? I have a dyno and air fuel sniffer to use to tune.. does the ecmspy allow you to tune while you ride or is it more like the program for the harley race tuner where you have to record data then tune then rerun and keep trying to get closer? I'm tryn to get as much info on the ecmspy that i can. only because i've used the powercommander for a few years now and have had good results, all tho i havn't used this older version of the pc3 alot.. but like you said a lot of people here use the ecmspy..
keep the thoughts on this subject coming!!

its not at all that the PC and ECMSpy do the same thing. the PC literally does NOTHING on our bikes! let me explain: first, it only interfaces with the fuel injectors. because of how our bikes run (without MAFs and relying on the O2 sensor), the ECM will eventually negate what the PC does. for example, let's say at a certain point the ECM says to use 15 units of fuel. you program the PC to richen it up a bit, and it adds 2 units of fuel. this is great until the ECM reads the O2 sensor and realizes that it is not running at the "optimal" air-fuel ratio and then backs off the fuel by 2 units...netting you the same result as you started with!

in reality, it is MUCH more complicated than this, and if you use a 4 wire O2 sensor is works differently....but basically its junk for our bikes.

ECMSpy allows us to see all of the fuel and timing maps, and make adjustments to them all quite easily. definitely the way to go.

Smitty, ECM Spy will do nearly a live tune. We run 2 monitors so one sees dyno with 2 widebands--one in each pipe- and the other monitor runs Ecmspy so you can make the changes. And it is not really necessary to shut off the switch like it tells you after sending changes to ECM. Make sure you save a copy of your stock eprom and stock map before starting.

Thanks ya'll! Def the info i was looking for! one question? does the four wire O2 allow you to drop the O2 sensor out of the mix (like the new Powercommanders do with the O2 deletes? this would eliminate the problem nelson was talking abt. and Jim when i get around to the tune I'l prob take you up on the extra info. Its to bad the PCIII USB wasn't out when these bikes were (which will allow you 2 control spark and fuel. I have heard bad thing out of the PCIII before but like i said earlier i havn't had much time with them on the dyno.

ya'll are selling me on the ecmspy.
stock or race ecm?

doesnt matter on the ecm, you can flash it with ecmspy

Yes the 4 wire kind of addresses that. problem is, then your ECM is no longer allowed to operate how it was designed to- it can no longer adjust to altitude and temperature etc. changes as it would with the readings from an O2 sensor.

I fully understand what the effects of taking your O2 out of the loop. Not goin to make a dif on this bike its only goin to go down the track.
