Author Message   Harold Posted on Sunday, June 14, 2009 - 09:08 am:        I started to bleed my rear brake, and the fluid in there is clear. I had a bottle of DOT5 silicone fluid, which I bought for my old S1W, and it is purple. Is this just a brand difference? Anyone know if they are compatible, or should I just change the whole setup. This is incorrect. The factory fill in DOT5 was clear. Also, DOT5 does not change colors. I've used it vehicles about 10 years ago, checked the fluid recently, and it's still purple.   Sloppy Posted on Sunday, June 14, 2009 - 01:37 pm:        I "assume" that the Purple color is to differentiate it from the non silicone brakes. Color is the reason I won't be buying more Royal Purple 20w50 after my current case is used up - it's hard to tell how dirty the oil is when it was dark purple in the first place.   Harold Posted on Sunday, June 14, 2009 - 09:56 pm:        I assume we are supposed to be using DOT5, right? It will change to a clear after some use. I don't know of any DOT5 that does not change color over time. Just flush out the system and fill with the correct fluid DOT4 or DOT5.
