Let me preface this by saying it's June 9th and I haven't ridden my bike yet. So needless to say I'm PO'ed. After building the motor I found out I had a bent intake valve on the rear cylinder. '99 X1 for those that don't know. Took said head to a friends house who has a valve spring compressor and we looked at several catalogs and he measured it and by going to Jireh cycle's website and typing in what I needed all the numbers matched so I ordered it. Fast forward to tonight, the new valve is a shade smaller. It will seat but it's smaller. The number printed on the stock valve is 18637-98Y and I can't find the dimensions for that part number anywhere. The valve I have is a Rowe valve part no. 702-12 which is 1.715". The head has a three angle seat and the new valve seats two of the three. Does anyone have the dimensions of the stock valve? I'll have to look around and see if I can get the bigger stock one just for the peace of mind but everywhere I've looked doesn't have anything slightly bigger than the 1.715 incher. What say ye? |

Std. valve grind is 45 degrees, multi angle seat cut is done for enhanced flow. Hi performance seats are sometimes cut 7 angles or more which is ok for a race motor that get freshened frequently. For durability on the street a single angle valve job works fine and will last longer than the rest of the motor. |

Lame. I feel your pain! how did a bent valve get missed if you don't mind me asking? I would call the factory when they are open tomorrow they will get you specs and also they have all kinds of schematics. I wont use anymore Hd parts in my bike unless i have to. Stock is like a swear word to me now, I use the Ferrea Competition valves now and will never go to poor quality stock BS again after the stock sh@# killed my bike 2x, screw HD and there poor quality control. Sorry had to rant a little. |

There is just a slight bend down towards the valve itself. When I took the heads off and inspected them I couldn't see anything wrong with the valves and assumed they were ok. Since the problem was with the crank pin and on the front cylinder connecting rod at that I didn't have any indication that the valves might have a problem. I guess on start up it pushed in and stayed in and now here we are. Jramsey, are you saying as long as it's seating at least on one seat it will be alright to use for street use? I have no problem using it but I just want to hear from someone with more experience than I. |
