I am fairly new to this group and i am not very computer literate so please bear with me. Since money is hard to find to fix my bike i wind up taking it apart!!! I would like to modify the front fork lower part but i have no idea how or if i can remove it. i will try to get some pictures but i am sure someone here can help me. Its the part that the front axle goes through on an inverted fork setup. thanks

I have pieces of an WP fork all over the garage right now, waiting for a pair of copper washers. I'll take a look in the shop manual over the next few days and see if the Showa's are much different.
For the WP, you have to disconnect the gold tube from the lower assembly, and then undo a screw at the bottom to remove the innards from the lower tube. I don't know what it takes to separate the lower tube from the piece that the axle goes through.

I just rebuilt my forks a couple months ago and don't remember seeing a way to separate that part. Just curious, what kind of modification are you looking to do down there?

The axle carrier is threaded onto the tube.

thanks loki do you know if its reverse thread or regular? to answer shiz i am sort of a minimalist and see that the ears on the lower fork tubes could use a touch up. the brake side i would like to mill out the recess areas and the other side remove the ear totally. removing them makes them more portable to carry to work. thanks for the input guys.
