You can use Drag Specialties part number DS-243515. It's $20 and any Harley dealer can order it. You can also order it online. It is a little bit stiffer than the Buell isolator. This is the one I used earlier this year when I changed my isolator, but I only have put ~2,000 miles on the bike since I changed it, so I don't have any long term reports on it. | ||

I found it for a few bucks cheaper Jm.. Put the DS number into the Lakeshore website and BOOM, 20% off. Anyways, that same site has the stock replacement for 20% off. | ||

Prebs75, Which ISO did you buy? The Drag one or the Buell one? I just ordered the Buell (part#L0501.2) form Lake Shore Harley. It barely lasted 200 miles. (suppose they would replace it under a warranty?) Its noticeably softer then the original and the center metal sleeve almost completely tore out of the surrounding rubber. This is the same experience Oldog and others have had with them.(the ISO, Lake Shore has been great) I'm going to try the Drag Specialties one next. I have not really noticed any increased vibrations, but that could be due to the fact that when I bought the bike, the stock Buell isolator was torn. So I have never really ridden with a "good" softer isolator. | ||

What a bunch of tight wads, 20 bucks and change it every 200 miles? At that rate I'd have to carry a couple of spares with me every weekend. Install a 16207-79D big twin Iso and forget about it. List price last summer $44.50, this spring $63.88. | ||

+1 on the big twin iso jramsey. I put one on my X1 a couple weeks ago and it's working great. You do have to drill it out from a 7/16 to 1/2, but it's worth it. | ||

I used a drill press at work. I imagine it would be possible to do with a hand held drill, but if you mess it up, that's 60 bucks down the drain. | ||

It's an aftermarket piece - was in my RS when I got it and lasted only about 2G miles. Billet alum housing with 2 rubber 'donuts' and steel core. Might work for a big twin, but too much stress for the Buell. Well, after 39,000 miles on my S3, I find that I have a torn front isolator. I have tried to read through all the threads, and what I seem to find is this- 1. OEM isolator is too soft, doesn't last. 2. Harley big twin isolator has the proper density of the rubber isolator, but has to be drilled out to 1/2 inch. 3. Drag Specialities has an isolator thst fits but the rubber density is hard. So my questions to you is, what is the current state of your replacement isolators, and which one would you buy now. Also, for those who use the stock iso, how many miles have you gotten on your iso? If I had to replace it every 5 to 10 thousand miles, that wouldn't be too bad. Every 200 isn't worth considering. Those of you who used the Harley big twin isolator, did you find that you overstress the rubber by drilling it out? Can it be drilled out without a drill press? How many miles have you gotten with this isolator? On the Drag Specialities iso, do you find increased vibration after installing it, and how many miles can you get with this iso? I appreciate your input, even though this topic has been discussed over and over. I just want to do this job once, if possible. If there is no good solution, I probably will have to sell the bike, because I don't need broken mounts on long trips. Thanks for your help. | ||

mine looks ok so far, how ever it is not accumulating any milage and wont for a while longer. =( if your front isolators are failing at an abnormal rate, consider replacing the rear ones with the front one, check the tie bars and consider changing out the front mount bolts on the head mount, DAMHIK =( 1200$ and counting .... | ||

I have a 2002 Cyclone with just over 18,000 miles. I assume the front Isolator that went bad is the original as I bought it used from a dealer with 6000 miles but I could be wrong. I noticed the Front Isolator ripped this spring (probably late last fall tho) (18,000miles) and replaced with the current Buell Iso (part # L0501.2). It lasted approximately 200 miles the center sleeve completely ripped from the surrounding rubber. Ive put the old one back in till I get a replacement. I'm considering the Drag Specialties mount over the updated Harley Big twin mount due to uncomfortable feelings about drilling it, that and I have no Drill Press. I don't know why but out of all the little quirks I've encountered this problem has me 2nd guessing the bike. I get one one big trip a year and I'm always the one out of the Group I ride with that has to do "on the road" maintenance every year. I love the Buell but It may get slotted as a second bike in the garage (if I can afford to keep it). Everything up till now has been relatively simple fixes after getting on here and doing some investigation, but when added together........ These days I can never just get on the bike anymore, ride and forget about it. Im always thinking "ok what's next" ..maintenance is always in the back of my mind now. (I never leave home without my Cell) Hanging out here and reading about leaks, oil drive gears failing and electrical gremlins is NOT helping my peace of mind lol. Sry for the negative post. Psy | ||

If Betty breaks during the 2000 miles of this trip, it's all my fault. Out of curiosity.. anyone know if front isolators last any longer when used with the billet motor mounts versus the stock mount? | ||

if your front isolators are failing at an abnormal rate, consider replacing the rear ones with the front one I agree, its like replacing only ONE motor mount in a car... it won't last. replace them together, the correct way, and be done with it. DAMHIK! | ||
