Well, here it is. This time round (third bolt breakage) I had the machinist machine both the head and the mount for dowels/sleeves. The threads were helicoiled and the face of the left hand head mount area welded and machined flat.

My theory is that the weight of the motor is normally taken by the two mounting bolts. Perhaps tensile strength is adequate but the shear strength isn't. The weight is now taken by the dowels. Even if the left hand bolt breaks again, the support from the dowels will prevent the boss being ripped out of the head, again, hopefully.

Excellent idea ; )

Hope it solves your bolt breaking problem.

I just repaired my broken motor mount bolt. It was the clutch side. It just sheared right off. My ISO is still the OEM with 11 k on it and NO signs of failure. It was NOT replaced. I got the new and proper 911 bolt kit. I also used a new OEM Motor mount bracket. I could not justify the $250 for the nallin billet. I took Buellistics? advise and just antisiezed the motormount bolts insted of locktight. They will get checked often enough but I was checking them before....hmmmm..... anyway the bolt came out easy just using a 1/8 left hand cobalt drill and then a 11/32 cobolt drill bit. I did not need the multispline extractor. These tools should be ordered from http://www.mcmaster.com/#

I also installed a new gold color gear for the oil pump. At 11 k the gear was worn and grooved just like all the others here about 25%!!!!

Now its time to complain!! Dear Harley/ Buell as proud as you all are of your gears and the price!!! I suggest you get some better engineer work on them. Dont be like GM and try to say sorry for negleting the auto line while spending real engineer money on SUV's I mean the cost isnt worth it anymore. Making the customer do a 9 hour shop job in their dark lit garage isnt cool either. See I care for other peoples problems and misfortune, concerns. I hope you try harder to care about mine. Thank you and ride on. Oh and keep up the good work optimizing the business and becoming more competitive. America doesnt want to lose you too. Many will not support a bailout either. We need you, so bring back the FXDWG someday!!

Yeah, forget the Austrian motors and Italian frames. I know it's what you always wanted Erik, but it doesn't mean that that's what we ALL want.

Oh my God, I've hijacked my own thread!!!!

What kind of extractor did you end up using, where did you get it?

sounds like the left hand drill bits loosened it up enought and it spun out
