Hey Everyone-
I am doing a ride out to Montana for my Dad's funeral service on June 20th. I am leaving Seattle on the 18th and staying a night in Spokane. Anyhow, I am taking his ashes out with me for our last long ride together. Any advice for longer rides on these machines? I think I am gettin around 200 a tank, so that alone will make break it up....

Sorry to hear about your Dad. God speed!

I would suggest checking all major bolts/nuts prior to beginning a long trip as well as a quick look aver every couple of stops. Plan your route with consideration for gas and ensure that the mountain passes are open. Perhaps the contact numbers for a couple dealerships along your route. My opinion however is that if properly maintained, these are very reliable bikes.

Enjoy the ride, make notes and take pictures as this is you last ride together.

we have a great emergency network set up here with badwebbers (like me) who are registered here online with facilities and tools available. be sure to check it out before you leave, so that you know where along your route that you may find assistance just in case

Thanks for the advice. I am taking tools, but having access to the network will be useful. I am getting a 5000 mile check up next week before I roll.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance describes a father/son bike trip along that route, but from east to west....
