Well, tonight's project in the garage was putting my new Garmin cradle and wiring onto my S2, so we can find our way around at homecoming.

My recipe?

I have a Quest II on the Uly and have had awesome luck with it. Bought a new motorcycle cradle and harness from buy.com off fleabay. $42 shipped to my door.

Had an old FLH microphone bracket laying around (for the old handheld CB mics). Ordered myself a pair of the OEM screws and spacers for said bracket.

Mounted bracket on RH switch housing (front brake clamp, actually). Drilled into the bracket for the 4 screws for the midplate on the new cradle, ground down mount side so it sat at an angle pointed at my face, not my belt. Mounted the midplate onto the mic bracket.

Mounted the cradle to the midplate with provided hardware.

Wired the harness to gauge lighting (it draws in milliamps and I have a voltmeter on the bike anyway so I'm not worried). Grounded to the instrument panel ground on the fairing support plate.

Turn key on....the brake light is on. Ruh-roh. <shrug> Sometimes they fight back. Realigned the lever mount and the switch housing, had a small interference issue, and presto! working perfectly again. Key on, Garmin powers up. Key off, Garmin goes into 30 second countdown mode and turns off. YAY. Turn the handlebars full-right...and it doesn't even hit the tank!!! DOUBLE YAY : )

All that tech looks a little out of place on the ol' Thunderbolt...but it sure will be nice to have it on there. Now to get it programmed with all the locations - the campground, Hal's, the factory, the track...

Sounds fun. I have a RAM mount on my S2 for my iPhone which has my GPS as well. Now I just need to wire in the phone charger and upgrade the stator/regulator...

I have a battery tender cable I wired up with a connector to a 12v outlet for my gps. I can also use it to charge my phone as they use the same charger adapter. And I can disconnect and plug in a battery tender if needed. It is just a little garmin but it gives me all the info I need. Most useful when I get turned around on strange roads and need to figure out where I am.
