Well, I have just got my bike back from having the upgraded primary chain tensioner and oil pump gear installed. My ignition switch has been pretty shady for a bit now and well it finally crapped out on me. Anyone have one laying around with a key to it I have called all the dealerships who "supposedly" had one it stock to no avail. So please help a guy get to homecoming. Just PM me your price or post here.
Thanks, Erick

The ignition switch on my 02' X1 went south on me a few years ago. Bought a new switch from Al at American Sport Bike. It seems to be of better quality than the original. I have not had any problems with it.

I almost always go to Al first before checking with the dealer. Better price and better service.

The switch on the right side handlebar controls? or the switch that the key goes into?

I've never had problems with any ignition switch, so don't even know what part goes bad. I've got an entire X1 worth of spare parts including either of those switches. I'm supposed to be meeting you and Geforce and others just north of STL on Thurs morning so if I could bring something with me to help, let me know. Or if you need something overnighted.

One of the things that can cause an ignition switch failure is having to many keys on the ring with you motorcycle key. I have my ignition and lock key only on a separate ring.

I replaced my X1 ignition key.My dealer was very nice and looked up my VIN to obtain my key number. That way,i still ONLY need one key that fits BOTH my ignition and trunk.

Cost me $75. I like the simplicity

"i still ONLY need one key that fits BOTH my ignition and trunk."

I had a brain fart and installed the trunk lock from my 2000 X1 onto the tail of the 2002 X1. Maybe I should go swap those..

Shipped today via UPS. The ignition and Key are in seperate zip lock bags in the same box.

Should be on your doorstep at 1030 Tomorrow.

If at all possible, try to have someone home at that time. The package won't require a signature but the driver won't leave it if he feels there's a risk of someone stealing it.

I'm looking forward to seeing that ignition switch in action Thursday morning

I had to replace my ignition recently. I took the new ignition switch to a locksmith, who made my old key work. That way my tail and bag locks and ignition are still the same key. WCoast, you may want to look at that.
