Check out my profile picture. Make sure to soak the wrap or else you will have fiberglass dust going every where!. It took some time but if you take your time you can get a nice wrap. Are you using the colored wrap or are you going to paint the wrap blue? I used the regular wrap and shot it with silver silicone. (It kind of looks white in the pics from the flash.)

Oh yeah, it'll smoke for like crazy for 10-15 min when you first start the bike.

Any color on the wrap will fade. You can spray them with high temp header paint though and it won't fade nearly as fast. It just takes a lot of paint due to the fact that it's soaking into the wrap.

The X1 header pictured above was wrapped and painted with DEI products. They're available at most auto parts stores.

I wrapped the back pipe up to where the met then cut it there. Then wrapped the front pipe and continued around both to the collector. I also used DEI wrap and silicone coating.

That X1 is carrying some medicine I wouldn't take! lol. With that big fancy turbo on the S1, I almost didn't notice the Billet trees...

I just got a "Cool It Thermo Tech" kit with a 1" x 50' black roll and black paint. I thought I saw on the x1 files 1" will be much easier to wrap around the tight turns so I got that.

I'll be doing it tomorrow after work. I have to weld up the cracks around the 02 sensor and the first turn coming out of the motor.

Tdman - thanks for the heads up. That sounds like the best way to do it.

"That X1 is carrying some medicine I wouldn't take!"

Wal-mart will give you those pill bottles for free. Throw in the clear vinyl tubing and the fuel filter clamped into the bottom of the pill bottle, and that catch can setup cost me around $9.

It was ugly as sin, and has since been replaced, but that sucker worked like a champ!

It took me a couple hours to do it today. My hands are still black.

I knew about two cracks in the header - I was going to seal them and then wrap the header. I got the bike back from the shop with the header off and took a good look. There were hairline cracks everywhere. The bottom (where the two pipes go into one) had a wide crack.)

I'm going on a 5 hour trip up to Americade on Tuesday and there's no way I can get a new header in time. I sealed up all the cracks with some exhaust sealer. I'm not going to paint it just yet - I want to reuse the wrap on the next header I get.

The Cool It wrap is pretty sweet. It has marks on it where to overlap.

I had no problem wrapping the pipe - guestimating the lengths needed is a different story. I'll know better next time.

I hope it holds up for you. When my Force exhaust snapped in half on the way back from Colorado it tore the wrap to shreds.

I may have ordered too much then, 2 rolls of 2"x15'. Oh well, if I don't use one of them I'll put it in the classifieds.

I tried and didn't have enough room to work around the header and cam cover and still get a nice looking pattern. Had to take mine off to wrap it. Make sure to leave some room for the header flanges to move about 1" or else the damn thing won't go back on. (Ask me how I know!)

I wrapped mine off the bike with the assistance of my dad. It's easier to get tighter and cleaner wraps when you can move the pipe around and still keep tension on the wrap.

Flxman, I wrapped mine last summer off the bike as well. I went to Advanced Auto and bought some DEI wrap and two cans of DEI Hitemp silicone spray. I painted the ends after where I gad a good idea where I wanted to stop the wrap and after they dried I wrapped them keeping the roll in a bucket of water and a second person helping keep the roll untwisted.

Oh yes, and after the wrap dries (one 50' roll of 1 inch DEI wrap did my S1), I took what was left of the first can of spray that I used to paint the tips and the entire second can to seal the wrapped headers. The end product looks very, very good this way but be aware that your $4 "spray paint paint-job" is likely to chip; especially around the muffler area.
