Hello, I've been lurking here for a while and have been considering selling my '99 Suzuki SV650 for something a little more interesting and comfortable. I've taken an interest in the Buell S3T but I was wondering what it would take to convert a S3 to a S3T? I've spent a few days in here and the knowledge vault but still haven't figured it all out.

Obviously there are the hard bags, which I'm not sure how those mount up. Are the bars taller on the S3T as well? Lower pegs? Is the seat any different?

Anyway, thanks for any information that's available.

And while I'm posting here I might as well ask if anyone has a S3T in the New England area they wouldn't mind showing me. I've never actually seen one any tube frame Buell in person. I live on Cape Cod, MA.

The bars are different.

Also I belive the the t models had some extra plastic infront of the leg area for wind deflection.

and obviously the hard bags.

the peg location is the same on the s3t, s3, and m2

not sure about the seat though.

Ahh right, the leg fairings, not sure how I forgot about those.

I'd definitely want the bags and the higher bars, but the leg fairings don't mean a whole lot to me on the surface.

My family has lived here on the Cape for a while now but it's really only my job that's keeping me here at this point. It's pretty expensive down here and I'd rather spend the money on motorcycles.

seats are the same. the t also had pouches in the front fairing area & under the seat. other than that, and the leg lowers & bars, they're the same. oh and the bags are mounted to a steel bar bracket that bolted on the rear frame under the seat down to the passenger foot pegs. can be mounted on either version. the leg lowers cracked easily. they broke twice on my bike before i owned it so i never had them

I am sure of 3 of my 4. I would swear the "T" had different pegs, if not a different mounting. Could be wrong.

(edit: May be mixing the S3T with the S2T about the pegs.)

If you want a T, for the time and money you'd spend getting the brackets and bags that may or may not match you bike, you're much better off waiting for a true T, imho.
While I'm tossing out opinions, go for a '00, but any are good.

Just browsing around on CL I've found a '00 S3T and a '01 S3 that looked pretty good.

I just can't decide if it's really different enough from my '99 SV650 ergonomically to be worth the effort/money. I'll have to find one to sit on.

Oh, I've been lusting after a Uly for a while now... same problem though, I just need to go sit on one. The nearest Buell dealer is over an hour away so I just need to make the time.

The tubers just caught my eye due to the great deals that can be had on them, and how amazingly sexy they look.

The speedo and tach positions in the instrument panel are reversed between an S3 and S3T. As such, the speedo cables are different lengths.

Long story made short: I had an S3 to which I installed the "T" bars & bags. When I broke the speedo cable, the dealer mistakenly ordered a cable for an S3T (because it looked like an S3T) which didn't fit.

The speedo on my 99 S3(T)-99 was the only year that you could build your own, mine has the bags with the sport bars- is electronic.

I have the S3. I bought some soft bags that are as big as the hard bags. Easy on and off. I am a big guy-5' 11" 275lbs. other than the inward twist of the handle bars it is comfortable for a me for up to 2 hour ride.If I ever get around to getting handle bars that do NOT twist my wrist inward toward the tank I think it would be much better! Do th "T" bars turn inward like this too?
