I guess when a message hits the archive it stays there FOUR EV VOR

I've been using this thread ( http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/456102.html?1242694310 ) and the X1 files for research. I'm stuck on the location now.

Biggest questions:
1. Does heat have any effect on this - do I have to avoid mounting the can or filter close to the engine? What about the lines?
2. Does the breather filter need cool fresh air? (determines how close I can put it to the motor. I'm also playing around with the idea of putting it right in front of the battery or under an undertail I'll be making.)
3. Do the lines coming from the engine need to be sloping downwards? (If I put the catch can on the left side of the bike, the line will be above the exit point to follow along the frame

i routed a hose from my breather just to an open filter up above the battery.....no more spooge......not sure if its because my oil level is correct now or if the oil is sitting in the line and either evaporating or something.....but no more oil all over everything.

my hose goes from my breather tee down to the bottom frame rail then back up above the battery under the seat

Catch cans have been mounted in just about every where on the bikes I've seen here. You should try to keep the line parallel or on a downward angle with the breather bolts. The only place I wouldn't recommend would be on the header pipe. There is a thread in the Knowledge Vault with pics of the different types of catch cans and where they are mounted. I like the idea of using the horn mount. You can always extend the horn up behind the windscreen to stay legal.

Here's how mine is mounted. I've got XB rocker covers, but by rotating the can and/or hose fitting on the side a little you could just as easily have hose routed from the right side of the heads.

My one complaint with this mounting location is that I get a little bit of oily mist coming out of the filter that blows back and gets on the motor mount and intake.

The filter doesn't need a particular air supply and isn't going to be heat sensetive unless it gets hot enough to burn/melt the filter. It's just there to prevent anything from getting back into the breather hose and into your engine.

There's actually more clearance between the header and the catch can than it looks like in this picture. Probably 1/4" between the two.

I don't have any pictures but I used the front exhaust mount bolt for my American Sport Bike can.
