i bought a 02 cyclone a few weeks ago, and it has sidewinder intake, force exhaust on it. and im wondering what is the next step for power money wise and bang for the buck wise, different carb, big bore kit, cams, lifters? is there really anything else to do without cracking the motor open, thanks

Mikuni 42, X1 cams, forged or carbon fiber rear wheel, baker billet front sprocket. After all that, you pretty much HAVE to tear into the motor to get any more power to the ground...

My opinion only. What Phelan said is pretty much spot on.

You might want to look at the power to dollar ratio. Is it worth the money to gain a few HP. You have a very reliable motor as is. If you want to gain a big increase then 1250 kit, heads, mikuni, cams. You might want to talk to one of the sponsors to figure out what you want and what you want to spend.

Prebs:
There's a lot you can do - but you need to answer a few questions:
How much are you willing to spend ($500, $1000, $3000 or ?)
Who do you want to compete against or how much power do you want (Vmax, R1, GSXR 1000, ?)

I'm thinking just the cams and a rejet of the stock carb would make you pretty happy.

Do what like 3 of us are doing right now...1250 kit!!!!

I'm doing 1250 kit, plus XB heads (need a new mount with those and drilled for carb mount), Screamin' Eagle .536" cams, Revolution lifters, bronze oil pump, updated oil pump, XB rockerboxes, Mikuni 42, stainless oil lines, polished tank...And that's just stuff dealing with the motor itself.

=) I can't wait.

I can't wait either, All my lifters are ok and bottom end is nice and tight with 9,500 miles on it. Soon it will be done and i can ride it. But i will get an xb before the end of this winter

I am now almost up to 9K! I never intended to spend this much but top end got totally destroyed and i needed all new parts so i figured i would upgrade instead of just repairing.
1. Bike 4k
2. parts and mods, misc. repairs 1k
3. completely new stage 2 top end, New cams SE.536 and custom machining and install 2.8k
4. maint. tires fluids gaskets replacement ECM

I only replaced the lifters because JT&S Performance is an awesome shop to work through!
And because I figured while I was in there, might as well do a little preventative maintenance...

Hey carbon that is no replica!
That is the real bike from the movie
There are only 7 of these ever made for the movie GHOSTRIDER and 3 were crashed in the making of the movie. The #1 bike is possessed by Nicholas cage himself and is about 80k, check the pic in my profile and see them all!

If you look very carefully at the bike on the end it does not have polished headers and was the first to die! the 7th bike or the infamous #1 bike has a little bit more chrome and some nice custom work and is not pictured so they can not be copied. All of these bikes are pictured before the movie filming and are not street legal notice no head lights, brake lights, turn signals, Or mirrors.

Then after the movie the were sent to BARTELS HD to be made street legal.

I have called them and spoke with the guys in service as to who was making the custom rear under tail exhaust system's for the nbikes and the guys could not remember the name of it but could ride there and remember how to get there.

I wish i knew that question. I just know how they came to be!

All of these bikes were outsourced from Australia and Al lighton @ American Sport Bike scrambled to make this happen with his parts

Anyone has experience with risers on their X1?
Thanks.

Jason might I recommend a different course of action. Upgrade your suspension, brakes wheels and tyres.(if you can find them) Add in a track day or better a course.
Good luck
