My 01 x1 came with a D&D slip-on, the bike keeps dieing when it's at idle. I finally gave up on trying to figure it out so it went into the dealership. After them having the bike and BS'n me around for almost a month they came to the conclusion that it has something to due with a reversion type problem with the exhaust, having to do with back pressure. It makes sense because when you put anything behind the exhaust (like your foot or leg when you are stopped) it won't die. They are saying I need to have a baffle made for it and they want $150-$200 to do this. I was like umm I could almost buy new exhaust for that. I love the sound of the D&D and it runs great other than this problem. Any suggestions on what to do?

Did you get your bike tuned after installing that pipe?

I bet that might be your problem.

I'm throwing the BS flag. I have the D&D slip-on on my 99X1. Where is the idle set at? At what rpm will it keep running and not die? I think all you need is a TPS/AFV reset.

NEVER NEVER NEVER ever let a HD tech work on your Buell!!! Ask me how I know!

it idles at about 1k-1.5k then when it warms up after about 5min it dies as soon as i come to a stop if I don't keep the idle up manually. I don't know what they got the idle set at now. I just don't get why it's fine and won't die when i put something behind the exhaust? I can run it for 10-15 min or an hour come to a stop, put my foot or leg about an inch from the exhaust and it's all good then take it away from behind it and boom it dies.

How was bike tuned--if it was done on a dyno with either ECM Spy or Technoresearch ? If not,it was not tuned. Needs to be done right along with a TPS reset.

Do you have access to ECM Spy or know some that does? I am willing to be that the TPS reset was not performed correctly. You really need to make sure the TPS and AFV are reset the right way b4 you do anything. If you don't have ECM Spy get it. The software is free (www.ecmspy.com)and you can get a cable from fellow board member Brakes2late for a very good price. (Cheaper than taking to the dealer for a TPS reset.)

My bike was "tuned" by the previous owner (a HD tech). The tune was so messed up I am not surprised that he sold me the bike for cheap. HD techs know their stuff but they don't know Buells!

Ok i will give it a shot and see about getting a cable. Can anyone recomend a place to take it to if i cant figure it out. I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to things like this. I can replace parts myself but the diagnostic part is my problem. I don't know the first thing bout using ecmspy . I'm close to the kansascity area.

Check the "Storm Front" section of this website for people around your area. There is bound to be someone near you who can help out.

PS: You can always give me a shout once you get ECM Spy up and running. I'm no expert but I have used it to do resets, diagnostics and even upload a race map into my stock ecm.
